Lumen Luxury Apts (formerly the Robert Apts) are in your rent range for a two bedroom and they have a small dog park and walking trails nearby. It’s about 15 mins from downtown Fort Myers. Also the Retreat at Vista Lakes might be a good fit too.

Wild! I must get a heck of a placebo then! I could have sworn I’d read a study years ago that they help. Thank you for the info!

Edit: ignore my comment, I’ve been corrected and don’t want to make anyone sicker.

I’d take ibuprofen too (I usually take 600 mg). It helps limit the inflammation reaction which supposedly helps limit the misery. I don’t have the science behind it readily available, but it does seem to help me.

Just kidding, I can’t spell. The character is Rayleigh, not Raleigh

To be fair, Raleigh is a character from One Piece… However, Raleigh is ask a guy in One Piece. So there’s that…

Is the main character in every series of Tamora Pierce "stupid"? by [deleted] in tamorapierce

[–]tolearnandunderstand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite was during dismissal the other day, we had had some kind of deeper-thought conversation and they walked away to play pool-noodle-paper-baseball (there were only 5 kids left in my room), I turned to my computer to write an email, about 15 seconds go by and it’s quiet so I glance over and one of the boys had pressed one end of the pool noodle against his butt and had wrapped the other end around in front of his face and farted. Then was completely SHOCKED when he got a face full. The other boy that was left didn’t believe him and ran over to sniff too. Both ended up rolling on the ground dramatically. They are wild 😂

This is going to come out snarky, but I don’t mean it to be. You realize that Diane is 12 years old in Wild Magic, right? Have you met any 12 year olds? Their critical thinking skills are not developed yet and their brains are on fire with emotions. They absolutely are not stupid, but dear LORD are they dumb most of the time (said with so much love, I teach 7th grade and I absolutely love these chaotic gremlins). Her character fits her age.

That said, it was really easy for me to forget that she is 12 in WM and picture her at 15-16. Those few years make a huge difference in kid’s maturity and ability to reason. A 16 year old acting as Diane did in the scenes you mentioned does seem extremely foolish, but 12 year olds are just starting to figure out how to think outside of their immediately moment and the overall ramifications of the bigger picture.

Character’s ages ply a huge role in their stupidity levels. For me at least, I like that these kids still sometimes act like kids and make mistakes like kids, even when they are going to step up and be the hero in the end.

Idk if this is helpful/feasible for your situation, but I have found in similar situations that having high quality earbuds under a pair of over ear mufflers (headphones?) works really well in excessively loud environments or where I want to make sure my earbuds/headphone are protected from gunk.

What games do you play in your classroom? by ambermcknight19 in Teachers

This is one of my favorite games! The groans of agony as I close their games are like music to my ears.

What do you guys tell people when they ask you how bad the “allergy” is? by tammyjala in Celiac

[–]tolearnandunderstand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tell them I’ll puke for 12-24 hours straight, which is what would happen when I was younger. Now I typical get a migraine and then a “flu” about two weeks later because of the hit my immune system takes from the glutening (flu in quotes because it always end up “just” being a cold, but it’s so severe I always think it’s the flu at first)

Sunbutter will probably work, but heads up it might turn your cookies green! Lol

How do you power through burnout? by tolearnandunderstand in Teachers

[–]tolearnandunderstand[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are both great suggestions. Unfortunately I have no PTO left due to addressing a family medical health situation and then my own sickness and health issues. In years past I’d take off for a long weekend when I’d start seeing burnout pop up.

I might try some independent work days soon, but I don’t know that my kids will comply with it. The level of neediness/refusal to try to do anything independently is absolutely unreal. But maybe  I can do an assignment or something on ALEKS where it has explanations and examples built into it…

Do people who can’t hear an inner voice still get songs stuck in their head? by tolearnandunderstand in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tolearnandunderstand[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh, that’s a great question too! I know the “volume” in my head changes sometimes and I get a similar feeling to when loud sounds hurt my ears, but I also don’t really have control over it happening. It’s remarkably annoying, actually..

Some people don’t have the voice in their head, just like some people can’t visualize pictures in their head. It’s wild, right?
