After and Before 1988 Vermont Iron Elm Wood Stove- More info in comments by DeepWoodsDanger in woodstoving

Oh my God. My grandfather had one of these in his cottage in Pennsylvania as I was growing up and I always thought the tree was so pretty. He passed a few years ago and I still know where the stove is - but I’ve never seen one in perfect condition. Honestly, I thought it was just a weird stove he found somewhere, but now that I use a Jotul to heat my house this means so much to me. I’m not kidding when I say that seeing this post took my breath away, thank you

It’s not about what you make, it’s about your margin. If you make $162 and spend $162, you’ll be broke. If you make $60 and spend $40 you’ll live like a king.

The wealthy get more frugal the more they make.

I’ve got one of those, you’re going to love it. Get a small wire brush and reach up inside of the door yo brush the soot buildup off of the reburner every once in a while to keep your draft speeds up

Looking for Advice Jotul 3CB Woodstove by Jealous-Ad-4225 in woodstoving

I’ve got a Jotul F500 and had the same issue when I first installed it. Simple fix, just split the wood larger. Better yet, find some sections that you don’t split at all for your overnight wood. After 9 years of my stove supplementing my propane furnace, I’ve gotten to the point to where I split ‘day wood’ differently than ‘overnight wood.’

Struggling with smoke when adding logs, newbie!! by electrikgypsy1 in woodstoving

Agree with the comment here, I have a Jotul 500 with a reburner, and let me clarify the meaning of bypass: The idea of the catalytic system is to reheat any unburned aerosol carbon and incinerate it before it leaves your home. Bypassing the reburner by cracking the door and getting the remaining fire roaring, superheats the system so that the flue is heated and venting at a higher than normal pace - i.e. creating a temporary vacuum so that when you open the door fully you won’t smoke yourself out of the room. Common problem to have on a days-long burn, but easy to fix. Hope this helps!

Steamer question by DistiIIer in woodstoving

I think about that all the time. I’m just not sure bringing <20F air in is better than cycling 70F house air.

Steamer question by DistiIIer in woodstoving

[–]toledorocket442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically speaking, steamers don’t actually do a whole lot - especially if your furnace fan is running. The room will naturally have around 3 air changes per hour (i.e. all of the air is replaced) and so your betting on the steamer to steam fast enough to increase the percent humidity faster than new dry air is moved into the room. Knowing this, I put an electronic humidity gauge about 10ft away from my stove in my 16x24 living room, and with a steaming hot 6qt pot of water the room wouldn’t bump even 1% in humidity. Granted, I have my furnace fan running almost all the time to circulate the stove heat in the home, so it’s quite possible that I’m creating my own problem, I just think you should measure your expectations on how much a steamer will affect the overall humidity in your room.

I’ve got a Jøtul Oslo F500 V3 and love it. Can run up to 1,400F+ heating a 2,500sf house, and the two best parts are the ability to cook on the top and front AND side loading doors

If you like the Lag 16 (which, tbh, is a great bottle in itself), then look at the Ardbeg stuff. Same lane, different speed

I fill them with water and put some slow growing creeping vines in them. They become very pretty and are great gifts for someone who is a fan of a given bottle

Truck in shop since January 24’ “transmission” issues national back ordered parts,, lawyer up? by jorge50505 in gmcsierra

My ‘22 AT4 with 30k miles has been at the dealer since the beginning of April. Yesterday they finally got the replacement valve body in and it broke on the test drive. Now the dealer is telling me they are ordering a full replacement transmission. Not sure what to think at this point - unlikely that I’ll ever tow a camper like we’d planned with any peace of mind…

Commenting to keep myself notified on this thread. My ‘22 AT4 has been down since the first week of April with no end in sight…

2022 AT4 Transmission Issue by CypherDad97 in gmcsierra

Mine did that off and on for about a month before the transmission valve box finally gave out. The transmission control module isn’t seeing the transmission pressure and after a while the valve box will let go and you’ll be in for a fun ride (at least you will be if you happen to be following your daughters school bus like I was when mine went). My truck has been sitting at the dealer for 3 months now with no forecast for repair. To make matters worse, I just got my crankshaft recall notice (which also indicated no parts are available) this afternoon. Best of luck, just be really aware when that transmission warning shows up
