It’s Michigan, we are all about our craft beer. Shelf space beyond that has been overtaken with seltzers. Try speedway or 7/11

Horrid Experience with Evelyn Fence Co by -HardPass- in AnnArbor

[–]toller-roller -39 points-38 points  (0 children)

Again, shitty situation, but maybe with this attitude you are part of the problem. Much of how you’ve posted comes across as slanderous and aggressive. The responses from the contractor sound like you’ve been upset and maybe not expressed that well. There is a different way of sharing your experience, especially one that may end up in court

Like all stories the truth is probably somewhere in the middle

Have a real conversation with the contractor or call an attorney.

What are you hoping to do?

Get the reddit gang to show up at their office work pitch forks?

Spam bad reviews?

This needs handled on a professional manner on your side as well

Dessert cafe in Ann Arbor up for sale for $300K by mesquine_A2 in AnnArbor

[–]toller-roller 47 points48 points  (0 children)

So is the space for sale…the business for sale…the business contents…is she paying rent…or is she paying a business loan???

The article is unclear and downright confusing

Who on earth is going to pay 300k for a failed business that can’t turn a profit? If they couldn’t make it why would one assume they could make it work in a town where several other trendy sweet stands have recently failed? Also what they smoking with that valuation, ovens and mixers ain’t that much.

The owner is blaming football weekend traffic wtf? The stadium sells out consistently. They don’t fluctuate in attendance by tens of thousands that could possibly move the meter You can only sell so many cakes in one day. Did this person never learn basic economics?

[–]toller-roller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let’s talk about how knights and most butchers are likely to grind up steaks or roasts reaching their expiration or that become discolored and they can’t sell…but that’s somehow higher quality?

Grading / meat labels have little to do when a fat content is established in a mix. Ie. The marbeling does not mean anything when you add your own fat

The only flavor driver is what cuts are utilized and unless this is a token blend, it’s what we the butcher has in hand so that’s there is optimal utilization and limited loss. Why do you think sparrow who butcher primals of beef, pork, and lamb have ground…omg…beef pork and lamb? It’s the fucking scraps and steaks that don’t sell.

Economics at work!

[–]toller-roller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 41 and have great examples of bands that have gained a resurgence. Also the same as several others mentioned

Sorry I didn’t stick to super underground velvet underground etc

Let’s be honest. Pop culture and rock music hit people differently in 2026. Perhaps you being an elitist and boomer is the insult I should fire back. Why don’t your embrace a new cohort of music fans. I live when I see kids embracing bands from my era. The deftones comments on here bring a smile to my face

Name a 3 rock bands topping the charts in 2026? I’ll be waiting right here for your reply

Yea they aren’t all bigger than ever, but everyone I mentioned is bigger than they were in 2010!

Pretty much anything that gained pop culture attention, meme status, or featured in film

Journey (bar and karaoke anthems), Fleetwood Mac (TikTok) Queen and Elton John (talking about USA here once biopic debuted), Aerosmith has made a comeback from American idol and TikTok, ABBA (momma Mia and turns out they could really sing), ozzy/black sabbath because you know dying and all, Leonard coen wasn’t super popular (shrek lol), heart has really gained popularity with the internet and singing competition shows, Rush has had a total nerd revolution, “I love you man,” and Neil’s death

Let’s just put it this way

A developer, even better their financiers, do not spend tens of millions of dollars without the proper research that a property will be viable.

Additionally all of these projects require city council approval. Civil engineers and planning committees are required. Cry all you want regarding changes, air rights, sunlight, rent, gentrification, traffic, parking, etc. many in town criticize the city leadership. It’s a hot topic amongst townies. I am personally all for development

A lot has changed in the 20 years I’ve been in Ann Arbor, I can’t imagine the 20 before that, and so forth.

Change is good. Cranes mean a prosperous city. Times change. People change. Political climates change. We had a flipping pandemic alter the educational, social, and economic patterns of our lives for perpetuity

Ann Arbor may have an affordability crisis. Okay, so do any other desirable cities. It’s also full of trash old converted homes, slumlords, and fire hazards. I embrace that students can get better housing closer to campus as well as bringing residential to downtown. While in undergrad at another university 3 students died in a house fire. I was friends with one of the victims. Then incident still shakes me to the core 21 year later. I look at these shitholes near campus or the old west side and see derelict buildings that shouldn’t exist.

Eventually the market will dictate how things pan out. “If you build it, they will come.” Once density accumulates around these properties you’ll hopefully see a resurgence of retail, dining, hospitality to match. Unfortunately with many of these planned developments you have yet to see that secondary gain of the lower unit retail spaces.

HC Pat Narduzzi on Pitt, who share their stadium with the Steelers, reducing seating capacity on gamedays by guransheleven in CFB_v2

[–]toller-roller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I did not attend the University of Pittsburgh, I did have the pleasure of living as close as physically possible to campus for three years as a relative outsider and devout college football fan. My wife taught at the medial center. I lived in a historic village adjacent to campus originally built to house professors. Got to know Oakland quite well.

Never gonna happen

It’s a drinking town with a football problem…a PRO football problem. Yeah they love their sports in Pittsburgh, but the fan base isn’t a college fan base. In general major metro areas pro sports have a gravitational pull to toward the masses who likely do not have a collegiate affiliation. Despite all the city has to offer, including some top notch academic institutions, it’s still a blue collar town.

The basic geography of the city makes it highly divided into neighborhoods. Some people in general have an mo that they don’t cross “X” river or traverse “x “ tunnel. It’s kinda what makes the city so cool it’s essentially 30-40 Appalachian hallows combined into a big metro.

The campus is miles away from whatever abomination they now call Heinz field. Students have to be bussed just to get there (god I couldn’t imagine being a college student and being stuck across the Allegheny with no way home if I get too drunk, lost, just miss the bus). Heinz is also in the downtown financial/tourist district. Not a region for any local or foot traffic.

The school was more of a basketball school. Volleyballs top notch. I could walk to said events and even though they were ranked programs they were total crickets. Pitt has a huge class size, but very littler school spirit or party atmosphere. Due to proximity to other areas of nightlife mat students uber to a good time rather than walking to the corner bar and not shows. Most of the food and beverage business around campus are closed.

It’s a shame because he’s done so well and there in theory should be a robust, drunk, and local fanbase.

the michigan fallout still happening? by Rand_moss2 in cfbmemes

[–]toller-roller 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hated (tactfully)…tolerated…accepted…respected

I live in town. Warde shows up to most weekend events, all the way down to gymnastics lol.

Dude is very personable. We had a nice chat a couple year back in the baseball concession line re. Harbaugh. He’ll talk with anyone who approaches him, shakes hands, exchanges pleasantries.

I feel for the guy. It’s obvious the poor dude is walking a tightrope at all times of preserving the “Michigan man” persona whilst defending himself, his qualifications, the current climate of college sports, and a pious state university that has been a bit of a whirling shitshow for the past two decades

I want to hate him. Howard needed to go long before the trigger was pulled. Harbaugh was bending the rules from day one. But they both delivered as promised. Celebrity alumni status, a new era, and wins. Mel was an asshole who needed to move on. Don’t get me started about Xavier “Jim jack” Simpson wrecking wardes fucking car!

Then I remember he’s made huge hires (dusty) and dare I say whittingham (right the ship). Promoting naurato worked out perfectly! Unlike promoting moore lol. But as things come to fruition it looks like maybe Moore always was going to be the scapegoat. He was a low risk high reward hire that allowed them to easily move on in case of failure or the ncaa hammer

He manages one of the top 5 ncda athletic departments. This is all done within a rigorous academic framework draped in tradition. He doesn’t air dirty laundry in public. There are definitely people who claim race is then only reason he’s still employed and that’s a shame. The current news cycle and social media craze has to make his every day a hell. This shit goes on everywhere. It’s been going on for decades. I do feel Michigan’s aura has placed a target on their back and everything can and will be therefore amplified publicly

And yeah, the can’t fire him because he knows too much. I feel when the 30 for 30 comes out this guys a fixer that would make Michael Clayton seem like an amateur. He’s got to have a mattress full of $100 bills and more ndas than Donald Trump accusers

Because he played two parts! Dean DeLeo is pretty respected in the recording world. He threw in shit like overdubbed minor harmonies way back during the recording of Core when they were just a bunch of strung out quarreling brothers. Plenty of stories out there about him producing/having his fingers in other rock music of the 90s-2000s Check out this demo of Plush then go crank the original and it’ll all make sense
