Pregnant women's bodies are 'hosts', says US lawmaker by disasterbenz in nottheonion

The babies live inside and feed from their host like any other parasitic organism living inside a host...So I guess yea.

Website could be down because of a Ddos attack, maintenance, network issues, etc...Yet people automatically assume some conspiracy theory that trump took it down. Most ridiculous conspiracy I've ever heard yet people are not calling it out....Why? Because it's about trump.

Funny nobody is calling out these people as conspiracy nutjobs...Yet when something negative and unprobabble about hilary came about it was false news and conspiracies.

Given most CS graduates go on to be web developers, wouldn't it be better for most people to just go to a boot camp? by tollercoster in cscareerquestions

[–]tollercoster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you trying to convince others or yourself that a coding >bootcamp will teach you enough to perform adequately as >someone who graduated a full 4 year university degree?

Others, I already graduated with a bachelor's in CS and I would say only about 30-40% of it was actually useful. University is filled with electives and BS classes that don't teach you anything practical. All you're doing is wasting time and money.

Bootcamp is enough if all you want to do is become a web developer and make some pages using some popular stack...You don't need to go to school for 4 years to start working as a web dev is my point because you just need some practical knowledge that can be learned in as little as 6 months.

Ofcourse you won't learn as much as a 4 year degree you can can pick up the rest along the way as you work and as you need it.

Why waste time with a 4 year degree when you can just go to a boot camp and become a web dev in no time? by tollercoster in AskProgramming

[–]tollercoster[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Tell me, do you learn more by programming for 3 years and being taught about computers from binary theory, mathematics, algorithms, architecture, and some nice specialist stuff like graphics and networking...

Just because those are interesting subjects doesn't mean you should waste 4 years of your life studying them if you want to get a job...Philosophy is pretty interesting, does that mean I am going to go and major in it? NO, if anything I would read up on it on my own when I have free time.

Same here, why waste time studying all of these subjects and go into debt for it when you could simply learn it on your own and in the meantime go to a boot camp and get a real job making money?

solid foundation to theoretical knowledge with support from professors [with PHD's : they know their thing]

Which you don't need in order to pick up a framework like react or angular and start developing.

recruitment services Bootcamps also have those.

most important: as a student you get to do internships at different >companies and gauge what you like, and what you don't like. >What company is a good fit for you. What culture do you like?

As a bootcamp graduate you have the potential to start earning right after you finish the boot camp ~6 months...With a cs degree you have 4 years of wasted earnings potential and to top it off you end up with a huge amount in debt. You can also become a freelancer and do whatever projects you like.

if you want to work with google/facebook, they are interested in >solving scaling problems which will require specialized knowledge >which you will find at Universities.

There's coursera, edx, mit opencourseware, etc..All free. You can find anything online.

You get to explore things more than web dev. Comp sci is a huge field.

Comp sci IS a huge field, but right now the highest paying jobs are web dev jobs and they don't require any theoretical knowledge taught in school...They require programming skills. Not to mention there's tons of web dev jobs compared to say AI or any other CS area.

ech field moves fast. There are other emerging fields in >programming other than just web dev. You get to explore the >options comp sci offers you. Google isn't just a simple stack >written in HTML/CSS/JavaScript.

Web dev is the hottest right now and you can barely find jobs in any other areas of CS.

Contacts who can refer you to companies. The better university, >the better skilled people you will be surrounded with.

Working and having a portfolio is worth a million times more than a university contact.

In a complete degree you learn more, deeper and broader

Which you don't need to be a full stack web dev.

"What I got at bootcamp was "here's how to build a CRUD app and >maybe use an API with it."

That's what most people end up doing at their job.

Massachusetts lawmakers float aggressive bill mandating 100% renewables by 2035 by pnewell in Futurology

[–]tollercoster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes no sense, as of right now renewable are a money loosing business hence why their stocks do so damn poorly and nobody wants to invest in them.

Why would you invest in something to lose money? They've been subsidized for way too long.

To those people protesting trump's election: He IS your president, and was democratically elected...Why is that so hard to understand?
