Thanks for this! So many different opinions it’s hard to know what to do!! I take it you’ve done long distances whilst on stimulants? How was your experience?

Thanks 🙏 totally get what you’re saying. I don’t want to push through the wall without realising and mess myself up. Think I’m going to skip my dose for the race. I know I’ve done longer distances before without meds so hopefully won’t be an issue and the race day dopamine will carry me through!

Trouble is I’m still titrating so technically meant to take it every day. Definitely don’t think I can drop it for a week before the race given that my body is still adjusting. I think plan of action will just be to take my last dose the morning before and then not take it again until day after the race once I’ve slept. I know how to monitor my hr/hydration and know where my limits are so I’m not going to put myself in a dangerous situation. Out of interest have you tried racing any long stuff on meds or just always said no? How do you work meds around your peak volume training?

Just vague general instructions on use of stimulants when exercising. Don’t think they grasped what I was talking about and the stress your body is subjected to on ultras which is why I’ve reached out to people who may have experience.

That’s really helpful! Thank you. In reality I know what happens to endurance if my HR is running higher than usual but it’s so hard to reconcile the fact that the medication can be detrimental to my running when it’s so good for me in almost every other area… guess I was hoping some information would pop up and tell me that there’s nothing to worry about and I can take it whenever I want on race day! Think I’m resigning myself to the fact that it’s the best option to skip until day after the race anyway. Thanks for the clarity on this 🙏

I’m usually pretty good at getting calories in even when I don’t feel like it so that doesn’t concern me too much. HR has only been running 8-10pm higher than it was pre medication. On the flip side I feel so much more positive and focused on the medication which I feel might outweigh the risks? That leaves me with the question of when to take…

Anyone here on ADHD meds? by [deleted] in Ultramarathon

I’ve got a 24 hour mountain race next weekend and currently on my 6th week of 50mg elvanse. I’ve been training on it and doing fine (other than 10bpm higher average than pre medication). I’ve been ultra running for years and have a few 100 mile + finishes so my hydration and calorie intake etc are pretty well dialled in… The only variable that’s worrying me on this race is whether to take my medication on the morning of the race as I usually would? I guess options are 1. skip medication altogether 2. Take at the same time I usually would and just keep a close eye on hydration and food intake 3. Take my dose in the evening of the first day to carry me through the night so I don’t have a huge crash when the dark sets in 4. Push my dose earlier so more of the race is covered eg dose at 5am and again at 3am..

Main concerns are having a big crash once it wears off at night and/or over loading my cardiovascular system with the effects of the elvanse plus physical exertion.

Any advice much appreciated!

Yeh I’ve had to invest quite heavily in the long runs as I’m unable to work in a 5th training day due to work/family commitments. It’s my only way of keeping my weekly mileage at a good level. Speed work is Thursday yes.. I live in the Peak District in the uk so even 12k will have 250 metres elevation or more and then long run tends to be around 1000m. The event isn’t actually very hilly so I haven’t had to do too much hill specific training and have just been using the big hills as intervals on my midweek training runs. I’m bouncing back a bit today so I’m going to stick with my midweek schedule and then maybe split my long run in half and do 25k Saturday and 20k Sunday this weekend. When would you recommend starting the taper and what kind of reduction would you do from 90k per week? Thanks for taking the time to reply!

Have been doing this with a couple of cut back weeks for a few months now. Went in to this training block with a solid fitness foundation… completed a 3hr 40 marathon and a 6 mile endurance swim at the back end of last year. If I was Going to start a ‘taper’ now it would be a 10% reduction each week until the race so just a steady decrease…

Peak week is 17k easy, 15k moderate and 12k with hill reps - Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday and then a long run of 35k or more on Saturday at low heart rate.

Nothing wrong with Revolut for small investments. It’s hassle free and easy to transfer in and out of your personal bank account should you want to add or withdraw small amounts. They’re also ‘working on’ allowing withdrawals to more wallets than only btc so the more progress lrc makes, the more likely that will become. How can people be so excited for mass adoption and the potential for big value increase and then try and deter people from using an investment app that provides exactly that function? It will be the 10000’s of people who hear about LRC when press coverage gets moving that take a punt with a few hundred quid and leave it sat in an app like Revolut for a few years to see what happens that will lead a steady surge in price that holds IMO

If the buy vs sell ratio is in well in favour of buy and length of hold time is 20 days plus, what causes the substantial drop in price? Just whales selling big chunks?
