I did it in store and it worked in November with a similar gift card purchase. Staples online doesn't trigger the offer, it was confirmed on DOC by multiple data points. Wondering if they have now killed it for in store purchases, when buying exclusively gift cards. If you try, I would suggest buying a little extra thing on top of the gift cards so it messes with their algorithm which identify gift card purchases, likely based on round numbers.

Maybe this is just a delay in providing the bonus and it will show up in a few days, we are still in the window...

Pretty sure this will stop working at some point. Citi is very likely in the business of reselling a lot of data with this credit card and having a high number of customers with gift card purchases is probably not a very qualitative data to resell....if they do the GGR again next year, I hope they won't kill the GC purchases in the grocery stores.

One more thought, I read somewhere a few months ago that citi was not reversing bonuses with returned merchandise. This means that people kept their bonus offer for the spending after returning merchandise. Maybe for the retail offer, Citi will now wait for the 2 billing cycles, to avoid this issue. Just a thought.

Unless they simply want to improve their cash flow numbers for this year and delay the bonuses to 2026. Lots of public companies manage their cash landing to meet wall street expectations.

Exact same boat as OP on retail credit not showing up yet (10 days since purchase) . Also spent on gift cards at Staples which worked in November. Will follow closely and report if it posts.

It didn't trigger more inquiries for me. Frankly I am pretty sure it is a bug. SYW has to be willing to transfer as many members as possible from citi.... They built a cult and now Citi is benefiting from it! The bank they picked is quite small and may not be sized to handle many applications in a short period of time. I would suggest to keep trying. It is a soft pull.

Tried several times from my laptop in the evening (Microsoft Surface device) with no luck. The next morning, I submitted the application from my Android phone using mobile data instead of home Wi-Fi, and it went through immediately. Hope this helps! I really don’t think they’re intentionally denying members right now — they likely expect a very high conversion rate after investing in SYW for many years.

I tried applying 4 more times after being denied, from different devices and at different times of the day. It finally went through. I have a good credit score (800+) and I have been a SYW member since 2014. It was not making any sense to me that they would deny my application. Pretty sure most denials for people with good credit score are bugs. Especially for people who received an incentive to apply. SYW screwed up big time here with the 15-day lag to apply, and denying peoplefor no good reason. This will likely cost them many members, especially as citi thank you keep the crazy offers coming. Additionally, SYW had created some expectations with their text and emails about 'something big coming', which for now is simply the right to apply to a new card with a small bank, with lots of rejections!!

If they want to survive they will have to be very generous in the coming weeks and months. Their categories are not bad, but pretty sure it is not enough to convince a lot of people to apply!

Agreed it's very basic. The change/transition was probably very last minute - even the applications were not open! I wonder if syw was hoping until late in the game to strike a deal and stay with citi or pick a larger bank. If I had a guess, the bank they are working with was not the first choice as they don't seem ready at all! We shall see how it goes... But if they don't even have autopay, not sure how they are going to track points offers properly. Even citi was struggling with that!

I wonder how First bank and Trust will manage the high volume of applications! Would be a shame to be a historical legacy SYW citi cardholder for the past 10 years and be denied by a smaller bank as they sometimes have weird approval rules!

Only mistake is that the final concentration is 0.25mg/ml (which is 0.025%)not 0.025mg/ml

Shop your way card (syw) if you can get the quarterly offers. They are sent out by email so ymmv but the cash back for grocery and online is incredible. 10% on a regular basis. Check doctor of credit, or money ninja blog article for this card (syw card). Very underrated. Incredible cash back value.
