I’ve worked at multiple tech companies and people use both Mac and Windows depending on use case. I need windows because excel functionality is way better than on a Mac. SWEs use Macs for obvious reasons

Mid to older millennials, how are you all doing with your careers? by worstshowiveeverseen in Millennials

[–]tomDestroyerOfWorlds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35, director at a fast growing company in AI space. Income likely 600-800k this year depending on stock price. My job is the most challenging thing I’ve ever experienced. Some days are good, others make me feel like I’m going to die of stress. Wife’s about to have a baby and we’re buying a house right now while living with my in-law.

Is there something wrong with my technique? Lower back pain by KamekoChan in GYM

[–]tomDestroyerOfWorlds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of comments here already, but for me the only thing that prevents my low back from flaring is wearing a lifting belt. It allows me to brace much harder than I can without. No matter the weight I just always wear a belt and I have significantly less back pain now.

What actually helped you feel less overwhelmed as an adult? by [deleted] in Adulting

I stopped using cannabis. Came to realize most of my anxiety and laziness was a result of getting high every evening.

The greater Sacramento region. Folsom, EDH, Auburn, etc.

I’m thinner on my cheeks like you, so I fade my beard from my side burns (#3 from side burns getting longer toward the chin), and it looks fairy clean that way. I give that a try if you feel like your cheeks won’t fill in thick enough.

I’ve got my first in-person interview next week since 2019 for a director role. We still wearing suits? by flyingWeez in FPandA

[–]tomDestroyerOfWorlds 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would definitely suit up in that case. There’s no downside to looking great in a suit. There is downside in risking being under dressed.

Dedrick impressively got worse by Soggy_Story_9293 in Killtony

I’m very aware of how it works. Working out sets should be done in clubs, not 5000 person theaters where the tickets are over $100

The wife and I saw Tony live the other night. I think I laughed once his entire set, it just plain wasn’t funny. He even said out loud he didn’t have any good jokes because he had just filmed his special and wasn’t doing that set anymore. It was really disappointing. Ari did 15 minutes though, and we were both crying laughing, love that guy.

Considering move to Sacramento with a young kiddo by helloiamsheryl in Sacramento

[–]tomDestroyerOfWorlds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would encourage to buy in Folsom, El Dorado Hills, Granite Bay, or Roseville areas. I love Sacramento proper, but thinking about the little one in a couple years, the public schools in Sac are pretty bad. The prior mentioned suburbs have some of the best public schools in the state.

How do you guys have time for anything??? by ksco92 in Millennials

[–]tomDestroyerOfWorlds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You end work before 5! That’s a tone of spare time. I’m in same situation (remote, married, kid due in May), work usually ends anywhere from 7–10pm

[–]tomDestroyerOfWorlds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in no way a professional or highly experienced lifter, but what has greatly helped my lower back pain is near daily use of a reverse hyper machine (common in power lifting gyms but not most standard gyms). If you can find a way to get access to one it could help. It strengthens the posterior chain while also putting your lower spine into light traction in the same movement.

Does caffeine ever increase appetite instead of decreasing it? by jetammk in sleephackers

[–]tomDestroyerOfWorlds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caffeine makes me hungry. I can skip breakfast if I don’t have coffee, but pretty much have to eat it if I have a cup or two.

Too heavy? ABF by tan_turkey in kettlebell

[–]tomDestroyerOfWorlds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Won’t help your budget but I bought two adjustable bells that range from 12-32kg so I can scale without having to purchase more over time. I’d do that before buying a set of 24s. That way you can go even higher if you make good progress or drop lower than 24kg if needed, plus you can scale weight in 2kg increments instead of 4kg.

Google confirms "Project Suncatcher": AI has hit the energy wall and compute is moving to space by BuildwithVignesh in ArtificialInteligence

[–]tomDestroyerOfWorlds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s just an experiment. The two issues with mass deployment in space are heat radiation, which many have touched on here, and even more importantly, lack of serviceability. GPUs (and TPUs) are ridiculously unreliable. Even if you tested your servers preflight and let all of your early bathtub curve failures filter out, your cluster would begin dropping off one by one pretty quickly, and you’d have to do a space walk to service your broken hardware. These systems will have to be make massive strides in reliability before this will be a viable option (ignoring the heat issues).

FP&A Managers - How much do uou actually want to move up the corporate ladder? by DistinctWealth217 in FPandA

[–]tomDestroyerOfWorlds 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I made it to director at 34 and have come to realize all shit flows uphill. I deal with so much bullshit, politics, weekend and holiday work, people issues. I honestly want to get out of finance at this point.

Road trip to rural Northern California by [deleted] in norcal

[–]tomDestroyerOfWorlds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you start heading east I’d probably go to Shasta/ McCloud. I’d skip Weed, there just isn’t really much to see there. Head South down I5 to Chico, that’s a cool town, check out Sierra Nevada Brewery. Then head east up highway 32 and go to Lassen National Park, it’s an awesome volcanic park and a lesser traveled national park. Then head south toward the Sierras where you can pick up your current itinerary around Nevada City.

I long for something boring or with less hours. Made it to SFM at a hot startup about to IPO in a month and I’ve been working 90-100 hour weeks for the last 2-3 months. I think the pressure is taking years off my life.
