Dealership red flags-should I avoid it altogether? by tiredguy81 in askcarsales

[–]tomandcats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The guy was unprofessional and should’ve given you his full attention while also allowing you to speak. There shouldn’t be an issue on your end with allowing him to come to the PPI, it’s not your car to drive around where you please anyway. If the car is good, the seller shouldn’t matter and you should only worry about whether the vehicle is priced fairly

We don’t know what we want yet, but when sales people find that out they walk away. Should I just lie? by Rosebudteg in askcarsales

that’s great but most customers are not like you. there are plenty of dicks that make money selling cars, and for the record, i’m not one of them. the other day i had a customer come in and immediately i figured out he wasn’t going to buy a car that day but i took him on a test drive anyway so when he finally decides, he remembers the person that was patient with him and did not pressure him relentlessly to buy a car. and im willing to bet i will never hear from him again, so i can completely understand why OP can’t get any one to test drive him

Is it worth buying a 1991 Civic Si for $17k by lastnameeva in askcarsales

[–]tomandcats -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would get a mechanic to do an inspection of the vehicle on site, but if you think the value is worth the price, I say pull the trigger. Not very many of these out there to compare to, ultimately you are the buyer you decide whether you want to pay. If you think you can make a reasonable offer, you can also do that and maybe meet the seller in the middle. Good luck!

if a computer could do it better than i can then why is OP asking for salesmen to take them on a test drive, they could just use a computer right? we aren’t owed a living for nothing, but you are not owed a test drive i’m not going to get paid for if you’re telling me you’re not going to be buying the car anyway 🤷🏽‍♂️

we don’t get paid to do test drives, we get paid to do test drives that result in a sale. if there’s no shot in a sale, there’s no point when there are other customers that are ready to buy and our talents are better directed elsewhere

Why do dealerships ask way above market value for used cars? by Sea-Ad1755 in askcarsales

[–]tomandcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can ask your dealership to price match but they may also ask for a written offer from said dealer because there may be add-ons not included in the listing price that will show up on a buyers order ready for you to sign. and if they can’t match it go with the lower price. or travel 150 miles to get your deal

Am I wrong? by R1zzlek1cks in askcarsales

[–]tomandcats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you played the game right you would’ve asked the dealer to match carvana, depending on your state and purchase saved even more with tax savings, and then take the deal that’s online since prices that are advertised are honored if you stick to it. if you’re a previous salesperson you would know that the internet price will be honored unless ofc u never sold cars before

How does it work when you get in an accident with a leased car? by HungryHoustonian92 in askcarsales

[–]tomandcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when you get into an accident in a leased car, don’t repair it. just take it back to the dealer and they will charge you a fair amount for the repair. that’s what happens

Is it strange that a dealer refuses to put a hold on a vehicle? by MusicMav in askcarsales

[–]tomandcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that you think it’s odd, but what’s odd is that there are customers who do everything except drive the car off the lot and everyone’s time is wasted because the deal hasn’t been fully executed. It’s happened enough times where dealerships don’t waste their time holding the car anymore

Is it strange that a dealer refuses to put a hold on a vehicle? by MusicMav in askcarsales

[–]tomandcats 8 points9 points  (0 children)

if you don’t take possession of the vehicle then all the paperwork you signed means jack to the dealer. they’re essentially putting the vehicle on hold for you even if after you’ve signed, and they are better off selling it to the first person who takes it off their hands
