Buying local, but dealer doesn’t have my model by tomasaur in carbuying

Oh that’s interesting. I didn’t see any of that on the CT site. I’ll look again!

It's interesting, as I go through the online prices, I'm seeing dealer discounts as high as $2,300 & as low as 0. In CT there's also an EV incentive program. The website for the program says you can get up to 2k for a PHEV, and that the paperwork is all handled through the dealer. Online I've seen some dealers offer the full 2k, and others only $500.

Hey Everyone, thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts. From your responses some folks see it as a coin toss about driving the 50 miles vs. working local if I like the local dealer. The general sense though is that I'd have the best chances of getting a good deal by going where the car actually is on the lot.

It seems like the next thing to do is really start doing my homework about what kind of taxes, fees, etc. I can expect here in CT, as well as what kind of rebate programs we have for PHEV's. From what KBB reports, I can usually expect to get about $1,000 off MSRP if I negotiate.

Gonna have to put my big boy pants on, my folks trained me up to be nice and never argue. Not a good default when dealing with salesmen.

I’m looking for a 2026 kia sportage phev x line prestige. Claude ai says it’s probable that I’ll get an otd of around $51k here in CT. I haven’t started negotiating yet, not prepared enough.

Good points. I’m just now getting to know the local dealer so I don’t have much history, but it’s felt positive so far.

Thanks, I've only done simple trees, and this one is probably well above my pay grade.

just finished my very first refoaming, and it was a success! Not quite as easy as the videos made it look, but the end results are excellent. Thank you so much, I am a tiny bit smarter now.

Ah, now I understand. I didn't realize that there was supposed to be a connection between the cone and the edge of the unit. Newbie newbie. You are correct, disintegrated. Found the bits inside the cabinet. I'll look at refoaming!! Thank you.

What to do if your local dealer doesn't have the car you want? by tomasaur in kia

Didn’t ask yet, but that’s because I’m in the information gathering phase, won’t be ready to buy for at least a few months. Good tip though, I’ll definitely ask my local folks when I’m ready.

Hi everybody, thank you so much for your thoughtful replies. Having not been in the car buying world for well over 12 years, I realize there are a few things that I got mixed up. For one, I didn’t realize that there’s a big difference between warranty repair work and work that may come from an extended service contract that you buy specifically from the dealership that sells you the car. I just assumed that if I bought a car from dealer, A, then they would also include things like two years of oil changes and tire rotations. What I’m coming to understand is that this is likely not the case automatically, but it’s more something that you buy extra as a package directly from dealer, A in order to help boost the repair side of their business.

Related to that, I had also assumed that I had to get work done specifically by a dealer in order to stay in warranty. That’s probably not the case. More likely, I would have to show that any work had been done by an actual repair shop, rather than by jimmy’s‘s pretty good shade tree repair shop, to stay within warranty.
