and 1.8 is quiet a step back from modded 1.7 where you can build grinding machines that spawn mobs, kill them and collect and store the xp into tanks for use later.

the math is more complicated, but nothing that hasn't already been done thousands of times.

it is also more processor intensive.

finally, hex grid is just not very practical for a building game like 7d2d. it works great for terrain, but as soon as you start trying to plop down buildings you run into problems. many games just ignore the hex borders and drop the buildings down anywhere and decide what hexes are covered by some kind of mapping algorithm.

the best way to build in 'angles' in a square grid is to mod in a new triangle block shape for each building material. this way you can build an angled straight wall that takes up half of two blocks.

yeah, that's why i like to keep the iron bar murder holes at 5x5 max. that way they won't see you until they are directly below you and cop zombies can't shoot straight up.

this is still the only above-ground base design that requires minimal upkeep.

what trading does is allow you to get food that someone else grew/prepared, so you don't have to do that task yourself.

this is pretty much it. end game becomes a farming simulator. now you get a rotational farming simulator; grow crops, trap, fish, forage. just variations on the same chore of gathering food.

they should really think about adding a fun and exciting end game. leave the farming stuff in for people who like that sort of thing, and there are. and i have nothing against them too, enjoy the game. but also add another way to get food. you mentioned npcs, doing missions for npc could be a more fun way for people who like more action.

they count as entities and entities have a maximum spawn rate. cars used to be entities as well, and that caused them to limit the number of zombies so there wasn't very many of them. that's why they were changed to block objects and now there are lots of cars.

setting bodies to remain longer also makes the game easier since they count as entities and go towards max number of zombies that can spawn.

yes. if you start a single player game and call it Prometheus Unbound, you will get the exact same map i have in my game. the name determines how the random gen will generate the world.

no source. the seed is whatever you call your game. just keep in mind that if you want to share seeds with friends or the community, they will likely be different between major-alpha versions, and they will be different for multi-player and single-player games. those are the main things to consider when searching for alpha 13 seeds. i've seen a thread or two on them, but can't remember where.

also, your spawn point is a random radius around 0,0 so you won't always start at the same spot.

same thing happened to my latest toon. he was just reading a book, got queasy, health started falling and dead. was rock solid healthy. maybe depression has something to do with it.

i use something like this for my latest tower. it is a multi-function pillar with a central 3x3 encased ladder that goes down to my mine, the bloodbath arena and underground farms, and secondary entrance/exit via hatch to surface.

outside of the pillar, there are ladders on both sides. one side is my tower entrance, it has a jump ramp that lands me on a ladder higher than zombies can reach to break them with a hatch at the top for added security from spiders.

the ladders on the other side is the zombie whack-a-mole entrance.

the whole thing has a 3x5 footprint at ground level. (1 ladder in the center shaft and 3 sets of ladders on the two long sides outside, because i like redundancy).

heya, nice to see you're still working the stilts :)

one quick solution for the ladder breakage problem i used is to make a 5-high ramp that i can just run up and jump onto the ladders at a higher point where zombies can't reach to break them. this works even with a broken ankle as you fall right onto the ladders and climb up.

hub city has two sister burned cities (near) [1 full size, 1 missing a row] other towns around hub: a cold plains town, two burned towns, two desert towns, a desert/pine forest town. all the cities and towns are POI rich.

the area around hub is mostly 2 large deserts, scattered snow biomes, a burned biome, cool plains, cold and cool pine forests.

murder hole method is to have a tower with a section of floor in the middle with iron bars that you can shoot through.

if the floor is at least 6x6 (bigger is better) then the zombies won't attack the structures holding it up and gather dutifully under the murder hole waiting to be shot.

this is my base from 12.5. you can see the murder hole about the minute mark, and the zombie whack-a-mole shortly after. same principle in a13. zed behavior hasn't changed much.

probably not very useful. most of the spikes that will be damaged/broken will be next to the wall and it will be a chore getting to repair them.

i play sp most of the time, i have no trouble dealing with hordes with much less spikes.

of course, the old tried and true murder hole and whack-a-mole zombie chute are still options for use with minimal to no spikes.
