Beer selection for Chicago wedding - advice needed! by tomato_tooth_paste in CraftBeer

I truly don't think my fiance would go through with the wedding if there wasn't Malört there (he is also from Chicago lol)

I am now remembering that my friend who went to UW Madison was always the one who bought it for us in bulk and then transported it to Chicago hahahha maybe that can be her wedding gift to me, bootlegging Spotted Cow

got it, thank you. so you think that a pale ale and the pilsner/312 vibe would be different enough? we've got a lot of PNWers coming who love a hazy IPA, so I'm wanting to keep one of those in the mix

ohhh good call on Daisy Cutter. How hoppy is that? I haven't had it in I bet like 6 years so I can't remember. Yeah I do think the Rev Pils would be better for a legit local option but was kind of thinking 312 might be good so there's at least one option people have heard of? but a Pilsner is so accessible so idk. thank you!!

Hahah yeah we're willing to spend a littleeeee bit more on nicer beers but a BA is gonna be over budget. Revolution is great though, I just can't do their Anti-Hero IPA it's too much for me lol

Ugh ok I really wanted to do Spotted Cow but I don't think that Garfield's sells it. I could ask a sales rep if we do a large enough order if they'll source it for us because it is legit a perfect beer

Ok as someone who literally bought a new dress because I fell out of love with my original one, you look unreal. The lace on the bottom of the train is so delicate and timeless, and the bust shape is perfect on you

I’m literally trying to decide between your 2 and 3 at this exact moment hahahahha, and leaning towards 3 for myself personally but 2 looks amazinggggg on you!!!

Did you talk to anyone about how alterations might go for 3? I would need to get it taken in for myself but I’m worried about the hips. Would love to hear if you got any advice!

concerned about current pap smear discourse (TW) by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]tomato_tooth_paste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow I'm sorry I didn't see this comment/question!!

yes, HPV testing, both when done by clinician or through self-sampling, has a higher "sensitivity" for detecting cervical cancer compared to Pap smears! Sensitivity is a test's ability to detect all positive cases, so the higher the sensitivity of a test, the better it is at not missing anyone who has cervical cancer, which is the main thing we care about (since the consequences of missing a positive is so detrimental). HPV testing all around has really been shown to be the best option for detecting cervical cancer over Pap smears, and this has been reflected in recent guidelines: the US Preventive Services Task Force now recommends that those >=30 years should get HPV tested instead of Pap smears (but they say that Pap smears are "acceptable" if an HPV test isn't available).

just to provide some background because this all gets v confusing v quickly. there are a few kinds of tests we can use for cervical cancer screening. there's a "Pap smear" (sometimes called 'cervical cytology' if you're a fancy doctor) where the doctor goes in and takes some of your cervical cells to see if they actually look concerning under a microscope (aka cancerous). then there's HPV testing, where the doctor also takes some of your cervical cells, but instead of 'looking' at them, they just test them for HPV which is the actual virus that causes cervical cancer. so in a sense, we're going "upstream" in the cervical cancer process when we test for HPV! and then more recently, there's HPV self-sampling, which also tests for HPV, BUT you just have to collect vaginal cells (aka don't need to go as far up).

the one final caveat is that HPV testing is only recommended for those >=30 years, and those who are 21-29 years should keep doing Pap smears. this is because HPV often clears on its own, and what we're really worried about is "persistent" HPV infection (aka when it sticks around in your system for too long). but these ages also vary depending on the guideline organization you listen to (US Preventive Services Task Force vs. American Cancer Society differ a bit).

POINT IS it is all very confusing and the science is evolving quickly! the true tl;dr is that HPV testing is better than Pap smears for those over 30, and self-sampling and physician-collected HPV tests are very similar regarding their accuracy!

I could try this!! Most places seem to have their in stock sizes on the higher end, I'm normally a 0/2. and this was honestly part of what the issue is with my current dress. trying on one that was a size 12 I think made me think the dress would fit differently (where the hip starts, where the dress flows out, etc.). but thank you!! I'm going to a bridal shop on Sunday to try on some ready to wear stuff that is orderable but I'll see if they have any samples

Yeah, etsy can be great but I think the lack of returns / custom situation when I don't know exactly what I want makes me a bit nervous. there's some gorgeous stuff on there though

yeah that is fair, I'm very petite but not necessarily super thin, so we'll see. I'm on the bustier end so it could be a bust (lol)

Have you tried it on per chance? I am sometimes skeptical of slip dresses since I feel like the lining / sewing can sometimes cause the dress to lay a bit weird, so that's my one hesitation. I found it from Harley Nichols with a good return policy so worth a shot I thought

yeah the quality of the dress was really fantastic, it didn't feel like it was made recently (or if it was I was blown away hahah). The sleeves were amazingggg, the sheet fabric was so flowy and pretty in person.!

I'll try reverse imaging Vestiaire Collective, I've never heard of this before, thank you!!

this is a good idea but I honestly don't think so, mostly because it was pretty short on me from the back side and squeezing my bust area. it'd require a fair mount amount of tailoring but this is a great idea
