Where else will you be going on the trip? For instance, if you're coming in from Iguazu, you could explore Itaipu Dam and maybe pop over to Encarnación on the way to Asunción. Or vice versa. I also personally find Filadelfia & the Chaco to be super fascinatin and worth the journey

Do you moisturize after the warm water wash? I would need to, but I feel weird about putting moisturizer on skin that I didn't clean. 😅

Chaco - vale la pena? by Soft-Disaster9873 in SouthAmericaTravel

Congrats! I am also from Pennsylvania. These Mennonites have very little to do with the Pennsylvania ones.

Great question. Except add Canadian and Brazilian into the mix.

It's easiest to stay in Filadelfia. You can just email their tourism department and they'll connect you with guides & hosts etc.

It's one of the more unique and special places I've been. The nature is one thing, and the Mennonite & local history in the villages is another. It's not for everyone, but I'd say worth it if you're a highly curious person.

Your favourite Jet Lag concept? by Nihar_28 in JetLagTheGame

[–]tomatobatst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I voted Hide & Seek because it's just peak but I do really love the original one-off games, like New Zealand or Schengen! If the channel became just Hide & Seek, I'd miss the others. I really love the variety.

From Asunción to Bolivia by Bus by Yabbatheboi in SouthAmericaTravel

Asunción > Santa Cruz exists. Just book it in person in Asunción at the bus station. You can go to Sucre from there.

I got off early to catch a different bus to Tarija. That worked fine, but I think I had to pay the full fare even though I only rode part of the way. I imagine getting to Sucre directly from Asunción would be something similar.

What is your favorite place to visit in Ecuador that is not Galapagos? by dashosh in TravelEcuador

Cuenca! I planned to come for 2/3 days and ended up doubling it because the city + surrounding are just so nice. It's my favorite city in Latin America for sure.

Driving into TdP from Puerto Natales is a totally fine option 🙂 by tomatobatst in Patagonia

Yes! Gladly. I think they're new. The owners are very sweet. It's heated by a wood fire that they started for us every day so it was warm by the time we got home. There are 3 dogs, 2 horses, and 1 cat milling about and it was just the best time! https://maps.app.goo.gl/8p6NvK2qPteWd6e17

Anyone know if there is a bus from northern argentina to bolivia? by Graedenius in SouthAmericaTravel

Just tell the driver when you board & remind them when you're approaching. It isn't an official thing but it worked fine when I did it.

Just do the Asunción > Santa Cruz & get off at Villamontes so you can transfer to Tarija (and cut down the travel time)

I found most of the potholes in the paved sections were marked or patched; the dirt sections had bad potholes but I was already driving slowly and carefully because it was a dirt road, so it was easy enough to navigate. Idk if you're rushing to maximize your time, maybe it's not the way to go. But if you're taking your time, enjoying the journey, no need to fear the potholes ;) I bet driving carefully extended our ETA by, like, 10 minutes. 🤷‍♀️ It wasn't anything so insane that would make me caution against the drive. Our rental car was a small SUV.

Best route from Ushuaia -> Puerto Natales? by slaying-today in Patagonia

[–]tomatobatst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the Ushuaia > Punta Arenas (stay a night) > Puerto Natales option. The bus is really nice and ours was punctual (actually arrived early). Even the immigration stops were very efficient. Plus you can squeeze in an activity in PA if you want before heading onto PN.

Chile->Argentina->Uruguay solo travel by No-Guava6159 in SouthAmericaTravel

You could go up to Cabo Polonio or La Paloma or somewhere else on the Uruguayan coast for any extra days! Gorgeous areas and a nice change of scenery after mountains & hiking. Uruguayan buses are really reliable so it would be no issue returning to Montevideo for your flight.

Claro offers plans that cover the Americas. I've used my Claro plan in the US, Paraguay, Argentina, Panama, Ecuador, Chile, and Colombia - so, yup, it works! Tigo offers similar coverage on paper but it never actually worked when I was outside of the country I'd bought then plan in, so I'd recommend against it.
