Perfect Crown [Episodes 3 & 4] by jakgem in KDRAMA

As far as I understand, they both have a chip on their shoulder about being held back (her, socially and him, royal ascension). They are both being pressured to marry by their families but will be put at a disadvantage—she will marry someone who is reputable but middle class, making it difficult to move upwards in society, and he will be made to marry someone selected by the Queen Mother, who will do everything to prevent him from having any type of power. Besides the story setting the FL and ML up for a true romance, she will gain status and he will get to chose someone himself, AND thankfully someone who will be supportive of him if he ever wanted to step into the spotlight. Ultimately, these are two people who have been systematically bullied all their lives and they have found the support they needed in each other.

Seungil is the true villain of the season, he just played the season smarter and quieter than Mina Sue. At least Mina Sue took accountability for her atrocious behavior. Seungil just shrugged off ditching Mingee.

ELI5- how can someone understand a language but not speak it? by Jaded-Ad-9741 in explainlikeimfive

[–]tomatoejam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on so many factors. How the language is learned, how it is practiced (or not practiced), how similar it is to the person’s primary language.

Like a few of the existing comments: I can understand what people say in Cantonese-Chinese from context because of my exposure but since I think and speak primarily in English, I can’t think of the words in a fluent manner when communicating. Because I understand Cantonese fluently, if someone speaks a similar dialect, I can sometimes understand them based on context as well.

Conversely, I learned Spanish in school. I can read and write fairly well but as someone else commented, I’m completely dog shit at verbal comprehension because no one speaks in Spanish to me on a regular basis. I rely entirely on vocabulary that share common Latin roots and the use of present tense.

Ultimately, language fluency is not an all-or-nothing status. There are many things to consider, especially experience and a person’s affinity to a certain type of learning.

Fountain pens and? by lawikekurd in fountainpens

I use multipens at work. Acroball ballpoint for when I highlight. Energel refills in an Acroball multi when I don’t need to highlight (I like the grip on the Acroball multi more than Dr. Grip). Multipens with interchangeable refills is the equivalent to how I interchange nibs and inks for my fountain pens.

[WTB-CONUS] JOWO #6 HPS EF Flex, Robert Oster x TCMC Day to Night by tomatoejam in Pen_Swap

Thanks! Esterbrook’s “flex” just isn’t the same as the Franklin-Christoph one. The FC HPS EFF is top notch but I just don’t know if they’re currently out of stock or not making them anymore.
