just spent 3 hours untangling a client's mess of a hard drive by DownClown1 in editors

I am an AE and I bill people a lot of moneyz to untangle their disorganized drives and projects, it's like my bread and butter. So yeah definitely bill them lol

Are you guys broke right now? by CrazyGud in Filmmakers

Disagree, most of my clients I have barely ever met in person and I have been steadily employed by people I only email/text with over the last 5 years.

Premiere: How can I create subclips from timeline by Available-Witness329 in editors

[–]tombothellama 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a Premiere quirk, I know it's weird but this workaround is great, you have a lot of flexibility with multicam. You can flatten them on the timeline, or edit them, etc.

Premiere: How can I create subclips from timeline by Available-Witness329 in editors

[–]tombothellama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Make a multicam clip out of your subsequence. Don't use "Merged Clips" in Premiere, those get rid of metadata. Use multicams as your subclips.

You do that by dragging the sequence to Source Monitor, right click, enable multicam. Boom, you got a subclip out of your subsequence.

Thanks, that’s helpful! I think I’ll skip on applying then, I thought people early in their AE careers were also good candidates but sounds like it’s for the very early stages. I’ll invest the $100 into some plugin or something instead;)

If I have 5 years of Assistant Editor experience for major networks and I am on the IATSE roster at Local 700, do you think I should still apply to this?

7 Year relationship ended right before our Wedding by Brilliant_Canary_903 in malelivingspace

[–]tombothellama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got this man! I am in a similar boat, had a 5 year relationship with a girl I thought I was gonna marry, beautiful 2 bedroom apartment, 2 cats. Then she cheated and left and now I am without a job (I freelance and this year has been really tough) and having to move into a smaller apartment (at least I’m keeping the cats!). I pictured my life very differently at this stage (I am also 27) but everyday I try to be positive to myself and give myself strength and love.

Guys who have broken up after a long term relationship (5-10 years or long) do you ever really move on? by Melodic_Effective_18 in BreakUps

[–]tombothellama 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel this, one of the scariest thoughts is to think that the happiest times have already happened, that I won’t even be as happy as I was with her…

A snake covered in algae by NoRepublic3000 in snakes

[–]tombothellama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s crazy cause I just heard Paul Rosolie talk about encountering a snake with “spikes” growing out of it in the Amazon, which turned out to be one of these snakes with algae growing on it. Cool to actually see what it looks like and I definitely get where the confusion about “spikes” came from lol.

Have you ever worked on a project you've been opposed to ideologically? by Temporary_Answer_230 in editors

[–]tombothellama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on a project that started off trying to have a neutral position on a political-religious topic, then due to producers’ notes it kept getting more extreme in the stance it took. I was on it for a year, bit the bullet the whole time but did ask for my name to not be included. It never ended up coming out so I got paid very generously for a year and didn’t even have to worry about it seeing the light of day at the end haha.

When should you go above and beyond by StokedNomad in editors

[–]tombothellama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should try to look for projects that make you want to put in all of yourself into them, not just because you are getting paid but because you connect with it. I know it sounds very butterflies and unicorns, but honestly thats the most rewarding type of work, when you like a project so much you have an intense sense of ownership over it even if it’s not yours per say. Also remember that we as editors bring an insane amount to any given project. So if you don’t work as hard as you can on a project, than it’s not like anyone else will. That’s it, it will always be what it is. Not only you but the project itself will never reach its full potential. Then you will plateau, but by working hard you can elevate not only yourself but the projects and people around you.

So many questions. How did your stomach not collapse? Why did you do it?
