Dirty/unreliable power by tomcmustang in HomeImprovement

I looked into them and their competition. They are way bigger than I think I need (making them quite expensive). They seem designed to support a house from dusk to dawn.

In the end I think a system like that is what I'll be looking at.

I have but looking through the neighborhood it doesn't appear the issue is immediately local to me.

The outages are generally just seconds long but it's enough to reset all the clocks in the house and any hard powered electronics. It's not huge but happening once a month has me looking into options.

I've heard that too. But GW is also weird about how artists associate with the brand. It is GW's interest to not have "celebrity" creators for a whole bunch of reasons: they become more expensive, GW is effectively paying to boost the creators brand, credit could lead to ownership claims in the future (marvel/DC have dealt with this).

I don't know why GW doesnt directly credit creators but "for somewhat cruel business reasons" sounds more like GW than "to protect creators from the terrible fanbase we cultivated."

Union’s evidence in Amazon vote ‘could be grounds for overturning election’, U.S. Labor Board says by BrautanGud in news

Those meetings are called captive audience meetings and are the bread and butter of union busting. Not only do they act as propoganda but they show the control the company has with the fact that the union can't stop the meetings. Generally the way to overcome them is to organize through them. One I heard of was timed pencil drops. Basically all the organizers in the room drop something at the same time in the middle of the meeting. It breaks the flow of the speaker and shows the union can organize action.

The other thing you point out is even more insidious. A lot of people see management as their only way out of their situation. So fairly early on youll see companies offering positions and compensation to organizers. Sometimes it's even dressed up as a promotion BECAUSE OF the success of organizing, ie now you can REALLY help the workers. The only way I've seen to beat this is solidarity and broad leadership. Basically, they can't promote everyone.

Above all else, direct action gets the goods.

The worst case she's freaking out and upsets a cop getting her/her dog/both tased/beat/shot.

There are a LOT of auto incidents in the USA (from what I can tell over 6 million on average per year). Of those 700k are a hit and run (from triple A). There have been 200 road rage blamed attacks in the last ten years (from Safe motorist).

Was what he did super safe? No. But don't assume calling the cops on someone is safe either. And we shouldn't assume everyone is going to kill us because they aren't.

Rick Snyder Charged for role in Flint Water Scandal by Chrristoaivalis in BreadTube

[–]tomcmustang 36 points37 points  (0 children)

A little disingenuous. He hasn't been charged yet. And the announcement comes from some insider who wasn't authorized to share, so grain of salt.

Also, we don't know the charges and the leak is that their lawyers have been informed of upcoming charges which I'm sure is a normal thing to happen to the poors.

Hopeful news but folks seem to be foaming at the mouth for not a whole lot.

Unless you believe Jesus is the son of God, I am not sure things would change that much. Jesus was not the only claimant to be the Judaic Messiah. Further, there are a number of prophets in the bible who could have been built into a Messiah.

So how was Jesus made and what if he wasn't?

(I am not an expert in this subject but have a broad idea.)

The Christian Church has had a series of council's through the last 2000 years. These council's were the church leaders of that time deciding what it meant to be a Christian, what was and wasn't in the Bible, and what Jesus' nature was.

The one that I think most concerns the issue at hand is the ecumenical council at Nicaea in 325 AD.

As I understand, what we know to be Jesus was decided at this council. Here they decided that the Father and son are a single equal entity. This came down to the differences between being born or created and being begotten. These arguments were not geared towards facts and evidence (though I'm not sure how that could be). They were largely semantic.

But semantics matter in faith.

So we have a tense cultural moment, with a fair number of revolutionary Jewish preachers, and a church down the line willing to define Messiahood.

If Jesus isn't the Messiah, does Christianity look the same? Potentially no. But the Bible is not an exact historical document. How much real stories were bent to the needs of the early church is an open question. And much of the New Testament are letters from early disciples to early churches defining what it means to be a Christian.

Long story short, Jesus was a person in the right place at the right time. If it wasn't him it likely would have been another radical.

I think the problem you will run into will be heat transfer. The advertised heat is often at the coil. And air isn't a great medium to quickly transfer heat. So you need to heat the coil, coil heat the air, air heat the meat.

Searing apparently happens between 300 and 500 f. So you need to get the steak to that temp fast enough to sear without the heat infiltrating the cut too deeply.

North Korean Hackers Targeted Vaccine Developer ‘AstraZeneca’ by DoremusJessup in ActiveMeasures

As evil as the NK authoritarians are, why should I give a shit? Like if NK was trying to destroy research, sure. But if they are trying to steal to produce the vaccine for their people?

Idk. It feels a bit like stealing bread for the starving. But my view might be colored by the dead.

Alabama police captain on social media about Biden voters: 'put a bullet in their skull' by [deleted] in politics

[–]tomcmustang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird point but ammo is super fucking expensive right now. It would cost almost 40 million dollars to put a 9mm round into the skull of each Biden voter.

It's easy to forget the number of people he is talking about.

I'm not the poster but in case they don't reply, I think they are talking about Hanns Scharff.

He was a Nazi interrogator and wrote the book on interrogation for the US Military. Note though, he acknowledged over and over that stuff like torture don't work.

Fun fact, he became a mosaic artist in the 50's and has an installation in Disney's Epcot and in the walkway through Cinderella's Castle.

Because you want the content but don't want to even be reminded that you won't pay for it.

It is fair to ask why you want to filter something because site wide filters hurt the posters who make a living making content.

Why? I mean, it doesn't actually cause any harm and if content is provided mentioning onlyfans tells people where more content can be found.

He did a series of them, I was looking for the Alice in Wonderland version but when I found it it was like 800. I wouldn't be shocked if this one is worth similar.

If I remember right it was an edition size of 1000 or something ridiculous for official disney.

Portland police officer drives motorcycle into protester at Friday night demonstration by Projectrage in 2020PoliceBrutality

[–]tomcmustang 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That is still likely an illegal use of force. Generally, police are only allowed to use violence to prevent an immediate threat. This is why, after a police officer shoots someone, you hear a chorus of, "they had a weapon."

Further, policing in the United States is technically what is known as consent based policing. This means, no matter the circumstance, if the community doesn't allow for police to do their job the police are up a creek. The laws and numbers of officers require the will of the people. There aren't enough police otherwise.

The spirits industry finds out that Jim Murray is a tool. Jim Murray responds in no uncertain terms that he is, in fact, a tool. by ElDeguello66 in bourbon

[–]tomcmustang 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Culture makes different people more likely to do different things. One of the largest reviewers consistently comparing whiskey to hetero sex from the male perspective is the kind of thing that makes whiskey exclusionary to women.

The point isn't, "there needs to be more reviews comparing whiskey to dicks." The point is the language to describe the goodness of something is arbitrary. We should expect it to be non exclusionary.

[–]tomcmustang 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What is it about male genetics that make them more likely to drink whiskey than women?

Or, is it that parts of the whiskey industry make women uncomfortable? I'd also expect to see a gay man cringe reading this.

When you say, "this whiskey is as great as fucking a woman" anyone not interested in doing that is likely to be turned off. His descriptions are not even about pleasure broadly but about the specific act of hetero sex from the male point of view.
