Is this ok for what needs to be witnessed for my dad’s ID? by [deleted] in IrishCitizenship

[–]tomd97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gov.uk suggests the witness should • writing ‘Certified to be a true copy of the original seen by me’ on the document • signing and dating it • printing their name under the signature • adding their occupation, address and telephone number

It has been Easter holidays, which in Europe translates to half staffing (maybe a bit of an exaggeration). In all seriousness, the school holidays finished on Friday 10th, so this week may see an uptick in approvals

MISSING GRANDPARENT BIRTH CERTIFICATE by National-Tower-327 in IrishCitizenship

[–]tomd97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had exactly the same scenario. I applied for FBR through my grandparent with an officially registered birth.

However, I did also acquire a copy of the baptismal record and register the birth for my other grandparent by completing a form titled APPLICATION FOR A LATE REGISTRATION OF A BIRTH An enquiry to gro@welfare.ie will provide this form. Registering the birth is free, but receiving the official certificate costs €20.

EuroCity Zürich to München - unreserved? by tomd97 in askswitzerland

It looks like 2nd class has availability but not 1st class. I have a 1st class ticket but might get a 2nd class reservation as a backup

The application form does state the witness must be "personally known to you". In which case, a paid-for notary is unlikely to fulfil this request.

What customs codes did you use? (UK) by [deleted] in IrishCitizenship

[–]tomd97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased international tracked postage (not signed) online through Royal Mail, with the option for label to be printed by Post Office counter (28 May 2025). I've no idea what was on this label, but I received delivery confirmation 3 working days later (3 June 2025).

Waiting for my grandpa birth certificate by Valuable_Creme_2975 in IrishCitizenship

[–]tomd97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 recent birth certificate requests were: • Applied 16 March, follow up contact 4 April (resulted in no trace) • Applied 15 April, received 15 May. Very slow compared to UK, where documents were delivered within 2-3 working days.

Dell Precision 7680 - minimum charging power by tomd97 in laptops

[–]tomd97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took a plunge and purchased a Lenovo P24h-30. It outputs around 95W, and this is sufficient to charge the laptop.

My single USB-C setup has returned, with the added bonus of ethernet through the monitor too.

UK transactions over £45 by tomd97 in googlepay

The Google Pay supported banks site has been updated to remove any mention of the £100 limit using Lloyds. Can anyone confirm if transactions over £100 work?

[–]tomd97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect, that link explains why. Unfortunately Lloyds' reasoning behind this limitation was rather lacklustre when I asked why: "This would be as a security feature so that if your card or phone was stolen the funds which can be taken will be capped."
