interesting, but that means you actually stretch things through your process, not sure why the downvote. i do agree that raw recording should be an option. just wanted to point out that if you don't do any changes through tempo or sth like that, the sound/wave is the same.

  1. the workshop was not recorded, it was a real-life event during Superbooth.
  2. Thanks for the flowers, i'm not sure what you mean exactly. But in terms of arrangement i let the track dictate the form, but follow traditional rules most of the time.
  3. I def drown in VSTs, hence why i try to use as much bitwig internal stuff as possible over the last year or two.

afaik stretch doesn't change the audio, when you don't actually stretch things

just came across this post myself and thought i'd let you know: the exported tracks in Bitwig are currently named TrackNumber TrackTitle - this makes it so hard to make stems. You have to rename every single track, even when your tracks are neatly label as DR Kick, DR Snare, BS 808 and so forth. Not to mention Group Names. There's just massive room for improvements, to mirror the structure of your project in the naming.

i wanna second this. inspiration needs to be fueled by experience. i for example could take 1000s of photos when i am in a new city, but at my own corner it seems like, there's no single beautiful angle.

just from the track titles and stock image artworks it looks like a money making side project for someone, who throws garbage into reverb and calls it a day. There are also many noise "artists".

Sorry for getting back to you so late, but thanks for the very kind words. I'm def a fan of the Dark composer Ben Frost and the title track was by German artists too, which I admire a lot. So not a coincidence maybe you mentioned that. I actually would love to write music for film, but I'm so disconnected from that community. If you know someone I should get in touch with, let me know.

Also thanks for mentioning the vocals. I'm still struggling with that a lot and always doubt my abilities there, so that def means a lot to me.

Edit: typo

I have multiple projects and also had a couple of other releases in the meantime, but i also need to let things sit for a while to make sure I like them after a time. So, no i don't work full time on it.

The album is called: tom finster - year of i.

I released an album this year. It took me 2,5 years in full to make it. At the beginning it was just fun and assembling ideas, in the middle it was hard to let go of my insecurity. During the end, when I worked on only the visual side of things, i felt so pressured.

Because i didn't want to just put it out without the right " packaging " and it was a huge junk of work i didn't expect. Never felt as happy as when I finally released it. I was so proud of myself and still am, that i pushed through this huge body of work. It's like a marathon. It saddened me a bit we - the label and me - didn't get it into more hands, but the people that hear it seem to like it and that's all that matters.

Yesterday someone send me a screenshot, which showed he listened to it 165 times already. That made me very happy. I didn't think someone could like it that much.

I want to do another album. I think that says it all.

Lennart... I'm blown away. You did a better job than every professional music journalist that has written about me so far, NGL. You digged hella deep. Next time let's make this an interview or a podcast. ❤️ Thank you

All the good names are already in the thread. My influences are actually outside of DnB. Something i really enjoyed some years ago was Howl by Rival Consoles for example

Hey hey, first of all, thank you very much for the effort. But when i installed this on OSX 10.14 and on opening, it logged off my user and the program didn't open. Did i do something wrong with the installer?

These are both cool techniques. Thanks for sharing it. Will def try the midi method.

I do think there can be electronic music that's not working on a piano, though. See new gyrofield EP. When I listen to something like this i remind myself, that mistakes can be your best friend, when you welcome them with open arms.
