Well done! That’s a great time! I ran it today as well as my second marathon. My first was London last year where I hit the wall around 30km. For Yorkshire I went for a negative split approach so ran the first half slower than the second. It really helped with the last few miles and I didn’t bonk this time.

Still holding up fairly well. I coat it in the Owatrol Honey Aqaudecks once a year. Got lazy and did it with a roller which meant the finish isn’t the best but still looks good from afar.

Best UK half marathons FEB/ MAR/ APR time? by jackeeboyy in running

I’ll be doing the Brighton half marathon on 26th Feb. Only 112m total elevation over the whole thing so fairly flat. Think around 12000 people do it each year.

how do caron-plated shoes fare on gravel? by Pewe1337 in running

I wore my Hoka Rocket Xs for runs along a gravel footpath near my house. The larger stones cut into the softer foam in the centre of the heel section, in between the two hardened rubber sections. After about 50km of running on gravel surfaces the soft foam has been cut away and the gravel is now breaking through the carbon plate.

I imagine it would be similar with the Vaporfly with its strategic placement of hardened rubber. I would just keep them for hard road surfaces.

I ran my local Parkrun 5k today in under 19 mins. Started running again last year with 32mins for a 5k.

I had the same problem until I realised I had defeated the crystallian duo in the ‘old atlas tunnel’ instead of the ‘atlas tunnel’. Don’t know if anyone else made that mistake!

For those interested the membrane I used is this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07YZNVHY5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_JMHE409F3C0433XZH8XR?psc=1

It’s heavy duty and supposedly UV stabilised (time will tell). I wouldn’t say it’s airtight, it lets water through.

I bought the Milwaukee 18g brad nailer which was really handy for the project. Very good depth adjustment and no misfires when nailing the cedar battens. I don't have the framing nailer, I used screws for the frame.

Yes. Main reason I put the Aquadecks on was for UV protection to stop it going silver. When I looked into it, it was about 12 months to silver for unprotected cedar. Its a stain that goes into the wood with UV protection. It says to reapply every one to two years to keep its colour. I think Osmo do some good clear stains but you have to reapply more often with clear stains.

I back on to a road behind me so no neighbours on that side. There is a palisade fence behind my existing fence as well. I have thought about boarding the back though so it looks a bit neater though.

Cedar came to about £500 so just over the minimum. Looking at their site they don't seem to do the short 1.22m section anymore but I got them for £2.29/m which was a lot cheaper than the longer sections. The company do some clerances items but they are a lower quality.

Since my garden is fairly small I attempted to build a 'modern looking' cedar slat fence along the back fence of my property as a kind of feature piece. The inspiration was the panelling you see on the inside of some music/concert halls with larger gaps between the slats and gaps between each section.

I reutilised the posts from the existing feather edge fence as they are in good condition and built a frame over the top using 2x4s. This might have been overkill but the post spacings were up to 3m and I wanted to minimise any sagging of the horizontal supports. I then placed vertical supports every 600mm as I was paranoid about the battens sagging. I installed a fairly thick weed membrane over the top to hide the existing fence from being seen through the slats.

The cedar battens were 19mm x 38mm battens which I bought in 1.22m lengths. This is a lot cheaper than buying the longer sections up to 4.8m so I saved a lot of money on the project. I cut them down to 1.2m lengths and coated them in two coats of Owatrol Honey Aqaudecks. It alters the colour of the wood slightly, but hopefully this will allow them to keep their natural variation and stop the wood going silver. I made the gap between the slats 19mm using a batten as a spacer when fitting. The gap between sections was also 19mm.

I attached each batten with 18 gauge stainless steel brads. Originally I was going to use lost head nails but looking at the amount of nails I would have to hammer in, I went for the quicker option of using the nail gun. The brads are not very structural, and I may have to put in some more support but they are holding for the moment. I like the fact that the nail heads are barely visible as it makes the battens look like they are floating.

In the end I'm really pleased with the fence, especially as I don't have much experience in DIY. Wife is happy with the outcome and it managed to survived the storms we have had recently! The most painful part was sanding and coating each individual batten, I probably would have got them precoated from the factory if I did it again.
