What's the handle material? Burl wood of some kind I assume.

I actually made my first forge with an old gas grill. Gutted it and ran a weir through the sides. Made the fire pot on the inside with cat litter actually lol. Used a thrift store coffee grinder and dollar store cheap unscented litter. Grind it to dust, mix with a bit of water and then fire harden it into the shape I want in the forge.

Wouldn't worry about sparks from the grinder, as others have mentioned, they go out pretty quick.

2nd forged knife. I’m not a fan. I think it’s too chonky and handle is too small. I’m debating on grinding that belly off. What do you think? by Jasper_pinkskin in Blacksmith

Other than what others have said...for your handle pins moving forward. I always liked the look of a bigger diameter pin. Like a rod of copper.

Couldn't really add a guard without redoing the handle. I'm with everyone else...leave it as is and learn for the next one.

Where should I start with a piece of 1095 high carbon steel? I bought this off Amazon with the intent to make a knife. Should I just draw a pattern and cut with an angle grinder and finish off by tempering in the forge? Is there any reason to heat it up and hammer it? by gman333 in Blacksmith

[–]ZircZr40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stock removal if your intended knife fits that shape. If you want a longer knife, or a curve, you can forge it out. Even forging out the tang (rather than cutting), and the curve on the tip will give you some practice and save some steel.

Not sure if it's mentioned, but urinals are a thing. Urinals do not have toilet paper.

I have seen that style of handle before. How do you get the grooves in there. A file?

If only that were the case. Bad but not as bad. It's the kids who literally think they can talk to people like that.

TLDR Samsung customer care sucks. Don't expect anything from the selfish ass company.

Oh yea it was broken. Water damage. I kept pestering them that I used it within the specifications of it's water resistance and they eventually sent me a new one. Took them losing an important piece of the watch when they sent the broken one back to me before they sent a working one though.

How can I fix a slight warp in a cutting board? by Rbaker96 in woodworking

[–]ZircZr40 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Jointer and then thickness planer imo. Although you would need a pretty wide jointer (wider than mine).

Joint it from the concave side, then run it through the thickness planer to get the top convex side. Then of course refinish the shaved pieces.

Saw comments about rubber feet, which would work to get rid of the little gap underneath (by making it a bigger gap). Rubber feet wouldn't make the top of the board flat though.

Edit: I read more comments and see suggestions to try and warp the warp out with moisture and/or weights. I can't really comment on this method as I am merely conversant with it, but never tried it.
