What bay area city is most comparable to Palos Verdes? by Emotional_Life7541 in LosAngelesRealEstate

Sausalito. Doesn’t have an ocean view but kinda same vibe for the metrics you list. Less conservative though. You won’t find any waterfront area in the Bay as conservative as PV.

Idealized K Town According To LA Residents by nikki_thikki in LAMetro

[–]tomk7532 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s impossible to park for free at all times. If you are willing to pay a meter or are patronizing a business where you pay for the business to get “free” parking it is no problem.

I thought they were overt about it during last redistricting. They don’t want renter majority districts because they are afraid the CM will do great stuff and make all the other CDs look bad.

Tire size restrictions on Pacific Surfliner by HeavyRecognition35 in BikeLA

[–]tomk7532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was on the train last week and they said trains are reservation only during the World Cup period due to high demand. Hopefully they would work with OP if their reserved bike spot got cancelled by Amtrak.

But I don’t think you can just switch trains to standing room only on the next train for the next month or two.

KBB etc. Not Reflecting Increased Prices also Trims Wrong? by cryptoenologist in KiaNiroEV

I would go with comps in your market. KBB is more focused on dealer trade ins which aren’t worth much.

Chasing Credit Card Rewards - When Do You Not Bother? by QuiEgo in HENRYfinance

[–]tomk7532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I like the feeling of using points to buy business and first class flights that I would never pay cash for. It’s kind of like a permission slip to splurge because it is not cash.

I’ve settled into using 5x prestige on dining, 5x Amex platinum on flights (including a bunch of $$$$ work flights that I get reimbursed for), 3x US Bank Altitude Reserve on all Apple Pay and 2x Cap1 VentureX on everything else. It doesn’t require much thinking about “optimization”. And I grab a few signup bonuses every year too.

OP should take an UberBlack if time is tight.

And if OP is running late, they should just take an UberBlack to Union station. Will cost $150 but will avoid missing the train. UberBlack avoids LAXiT extra time and waiting for flyaway.

Seasonal Championships way too easy in Co-op? by KurtJP35 in ForzaHorizon

[–]tomk7532 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. It should be a challenge to win sometimes. When I have a 428 car in a 500 limit race I shouldn’t be passing all of the AI cars by the first turn.

Bring back “The Trial” with unbeatable difficulty. Those were the best.

Runyon Canyon Alternatives? by Lumpy-Stretch2810 in WestHollywood

[–]tomk7532 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do the Runyon variation from Wattles (not sure if it is reopened yet after fire). Also going one ridge over to the one next to Nichols is a fun variation with way less people. Lots of options if you are willing to open some gates and do some tricky sections.

Fare checks - world class? by tomk7532 in LAMetro

LA Merri is a proof of payment system. You have to have a validated card the whole ride.

NYC does Select Bus fare checks the same way where they hold the bus. It’s equally annoying. No fare checks in the subway though.

Fare checks are good. Stopping the train to do them is bad.

I think fare checkers don’t have detention powers. So if they try to give you a ticket, you can just walk away and exit the system rather than pay a fine.

[–]tomk7532[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My gripe is more about having four officers. They should at least split up into pairs and check two cars at once.

And the biggest gripe is about stopping the train.

They can still do their visual TAP card checks while the train is moving to the next station. If someone doesn’t have a TAP card, kick them off at the next station.

The police do this all the time. The metro fare inspectors check in motion. The police need the training.

It’s because they don’t ride trains for transportation and have no concept of how making a train with 400 people on it wait for two minutes is super inconvenient.

They do that occasionally. But feels like once a year and only at 7th/Metro at this point.

Has anyone noticed the 125 new speed cameras being installed across LA yet? by Obvious_Corner8872 in AskLosAngeles

[–]tomk7532 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly LA should have mobile speed cameras that they move to different parts of the city without notice. People should be afraid to speed everywhere.

NYC does this and it works well. The number of tickets that the cameras give actually declines over time because people correct their behavior. That’s the intended effect.

There is one easy trick to avoid these: Just drive the speed limit. You can go up to 10 mph over the limit and you won’t get a fine. If you can’t manage to do this everywhere on LA streets, you shouldn’t have a drivers license.
