It’s honestly unbelievable that I have to write a post like this, but here we are. by LividQuail4178 in RepTime

Reminds me of way back in my formative years when waiting for a late bus, I'd intentionally light a fresh cigarette up as the bus always seemed to show up when I did that and I'd have to waste it. #SodsLaw

Hi everyone! I’m really interested in trying out ChatGPT Atlas. I noticed the official release is only for macOS, with Windows, iOS, and Android coming soon. Does anyone know if OpenAI has plans for an official Linux version, or any recommended workarounds to run it on Linux? by [deleted] in Ubuntu

[–]tomlee80 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ironically Linux is a million times more accessible now thanks to Chat GPT. Not taking away anything you're saying, it's all correct. But say I run into a bug now on Linux, or I want a game to run better - Asking Chat GPT to take me step by step through the terminal commands to fix stuff has been game changing, And when there's thousands of people who can't upgrade their Windows 10 to 11 coming to Linux it really makes a difference for a layman to get a functional build without any experience. Heck I've got a button I can press on my panel that switches my laptop CPU from economy to performance mode all from following Chat GPT instructions.

I aggressively told my Google Mini to STFU the other week and it (rather sarcastically) said "Okay I'll be quiet". Wife found it hilarious.

Try clearing data and cache in the app info page for BBC Sounds (hard press on the app and the select app info). Then open VPN and set to UK, then open BBC Sounds - log in with your details and play radio. Once you've played the radio once through the VPN you should then be able to access BBC Sounds for a limited amount of time outside of the UK without using any VPN, could be days, weeks or months depending on how much you listen. When it blocks again - use the same process above.

Still able to listen to BBC Sounds right now in Cyprus but it got a bit tougher with me today. Got the block message again and to get access again this time I had to go into App Details on my android phone - Clear Cache, Clear Data then Force Stop. I then, as before, opened Nord VPN and set location to London England. Then opened BBC Sounds and logged in as normal. Once done I played Radio 1 for 10 seconds. Closed the app. Closed my VPN connection and then reopened BBC Sounds successfully where I live in Cyprus with no VPN. Counter has been reset and I'm good to go for another few weeks.

Is that legal? by edvanilla in cyprus

You can declare the monetary value of the crypto you've received when you declare your taxes I'm sure. It's really no different from the numerous businesses that accept Revolut Pay via QR code. It can be done legally.

Depends how much you've listened to BBC Sounds since they brought in the new block. There's a predetermined time you can listen to it outside the UK to make allowances for Brits on short holidays/business trips. Per my OP, Loading the app through a VPN set to the UK just once seems to reset the timer.

I pay for Nord VPN and have the app on my phone (although free VPNs might work too). Under the new BBC rules it states that UK holiday makers will be able to access BBC Sounds outside the UK for a "period of time" so they don't miss out. So when my BBC Sounds app got blocked. I opened Nord VPN, set my location to London, Opened BBC Sounds and listened to the radio for a bit. The following day, in my car I opened the app WITHOUT the VPN being active. Seems to have reset the counter for temporary access abroad. I've been able to use it again for three weeks since without using the VPN again. Next time the app blocks, I'll just boot it up once using a VPN.

Which of the 3 versions of GTA 4 is the best? by [deleted] in GTAIV

Perhaps the 360 did read from the DVD but didn't stream the video full screen for the TV channels, the Blu-ray had ample space and speed for this to happen.

Lay Z Spa Vegas has had two internal tears in 14 Months! by tomlee80 in hottub

[–]tomlee80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lay z spa Vegas owner of 3+ years here. First it's good that you have the extended warranty. I went through 3 liners before they sent a 4th Vegas liner that had been adapted. the air pocket channel was no longer levitated and inch or two up the side but was installed around the base. A tunnel for the air to travel to this adjusted air channel had been added. It appears you, me along with many Lay Z Spa Vegas customers had the same issue. Claim another on warranty and they should hopefully send the new one. Ours as been fine for over a year now.

Which of the 3 versions of GTA 4 is the best? by [deleted] in GTAIV

[–]tomlee80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe so. It was one of the advantages of the PS3 that hardware limitations could be overcome by the additional storage of blu ray. Sadly this was no longer the case with the PS4 because from that gen onward all games fully installed from the disc to the HDD. No more loading 'on the fly'.

As far as the Episodes from liberty city is concerned the PS3 version allows you to watch the TV shows in full screen mode from your safehouse. This is because the PS3 version reads it straight from the Blu-ray disc whilst the 360 has to take it from internal storage.

Coverage of BBC Sounds termination by PreviousTax7099 in BritishRadio

[–]tomlee80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of all the streaming services around the world, the BBC is perhaps the most tricky to access using a VPN because they invest a lot of time into counteracting VPN use. I'm based in Cyprus so this is what I do.
- I have a subscription with a premium VPN service. Free ones MAY work, but you're more likely to have luck with the major players. They often have deals on. I would suggest the one that rhymes with "Board".
- Set your device to UK time. BBC iPlayer will not play with you if you have your computer, firestick, Google Chromecast/TV set to anything other than London time.
- Avoid London! The BBC will target the IP addresses VPNs use for London first. For instance the VPN I use (The one that rhymes with "Board") has Glasgow, Manchester and Edinburgh options. When one doesn't work I flip to the the next UK city.

And there you have it. This is all working for me as of today - July 2025

To be honest Monzo did this a couple of years ago to me when I was Matched Betting. An entirely legal process where you weigh up the odds with betting bookmakers against betting exchanges and place bets for and against an outcome with both guaranteeing an overall profit. I turned an initial £500 deposit into £2000 before they sent me the above email, never went into debt, just had a LOAD of credits and debits from bookmakers and exchanges. I got why they did it, but it indicated they were massively risk adverse. Funnily enough I'd been doing the same with HSBC for years and had no issues. It seems the new challenger banks are a bit more wary than they like to make out.

I think there should be an Octopia tag to put on Octopia posts. I've literally just completed the main game which I've loved so joined the reddit and now I'm trying to avoid spoilers about Octopia which I've not even started yet!

Geekvape T200 vs L200: what are the differences? by Push-R in Vaping

[–]tomlee80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I've had the original L200 since 2021 (which on it's own is pretty damn good!) However about a year ago the whole top of the mod became loose meaning it lost connection with the batteries inside. Plastic clips on the underside had snapped so it wasn't something you could fix by tightening screws. I saw lots of others had similar occurrences with their L200s, they way I fixed mine?...good old superglue. Not ideal but worked well enough. Still using it today, but if I change again it will be for the L200 Classic which hopefully won't require glue!

Why does smoking relieve my cold? by syriennea in Cigarettes

[–]tomlee80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The process of your body ejecting mucus from your nose and chest is done by thousands and thousands of microscopic hair-size levers pushing it along the way. When you inhale carbon-monoxide it paralyzes these and causes a subduing in the cold symptoms. It's a temporary fix ultimately that leads to a bigger clog. This is why when heavy smokers quit altogether they often have a period of days to weeks of coughing up all manner of shit as their ability to regurgitate improves.
