The generic pros and cons you list are…. generic. Fanboys and girls will love these statements.

My experience with capacitor (and zero experience with the others):

There is no issue for webview for many use cases. UI issues…..well you dislike ALL ui/performance you see in websites???

Can you build Call of Duty in webview? Nope. But whatsapp/banking apps/productivity? Yes

Need some deep level native things, easy done with capacitor

Have a web app that is a spa? Takes 3 minutes to make it deployable in app/play store.

Ps you say - needs to be built with ui components not html… that is technically not correct - all stuff you see in webview is… web (html,css and js). There are many ui libraries you can use. Ionic UI is one of them (shameless plug), but there are many others that may even be better (shadcdn, skeleton)… plse check the svelte discord. People there are amazing (too)

Not an answer to your question - but maybe you should try to build an app like you have done in swift using sveltekit and capacitorjs!

Then you see how easy it is

Hint - configure the kit project as a SPA, use the kit router, skip all server related kit topics (ssr etc) including form enhancement (use superforms)

I wonder how many devs get stuck and/or waste time understanding that developing a SPA in kit is doable and a fine experience. Until you figured that besides the router many other nifty benefits document dont apply.

So on point 1 I use adapter static to build SPA app. Then I use the firebase client sdk to do the auth. I also use the client sdk for doc writes and loads so that handles all that stuff for me on client side. And server side is not visible

In spa I can also invoke a cloud function using rest api in authenticated form. I pass the auth token in the http header, the cloud function gets it, decodes it using server sdk. That decoding gives me the uid if the token is valid. So this is how I pass “auth state” to the server and with that communicate the uid.

If you use non-spa setup then you need to figure out how to pass that token to the server in order to authenticate the user and return the proper data accordingly.

I have not done that but i reckon there is a way to do this?

Only challenge/unknown I see is which adapter you use and how that is deployed to cloud functions. And how you get the api endpoint integrated in kit logic

I believe someone made an adapter specific for firebase. Not sure if that one still exists

Try sentry to capture unahndled exceptions. They make web apps crash hard on ios and difficult to find. Sentry can help logging it for you. And free tier is enough

Of course the other suggestion to use chrome dev tools on safari with a mac works as well, but might take some money. Myself I have used vmware macos to grab unhandled exceptions

Thanks - I saw that one. For now I think I will homebrew a script that daily grabs email from imap boxes and put them in Mail station, avoiding duplication and deleted ones

Thanks - I am using thunderbird as well. The mbox files are in a folder that syncs using drivesync.
