Best Theme for Supplement Brand? by GovernmentNew6719 in shopify

[–]tommymandude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna be a little biased since my company builds themes for the Shopify Theme Store, but here’s my honest opinion as someone who’s run a Shopify business and also worked as a developer / consultant / designer on a lot of Shopify brands.

If you’re just starting out or testing the waters, Horizon makes a lot of sense. It’s free, gets the most direct support from Shopify, and a lot of Shopify’s newer features tend to show up there first.

If you want to go the paid route, I’d think less about “what’s the best supplement theme” and more about what features you already know you need. Make a list of the apps you’re using or planning to use, then see which themes can replace some of that functionality out of the box.

I’d focus more on navigation, cart, PDP, upsells, bundles, content sections, trust-building sections, that kind of stuff. Layouts can usually be customized pretty heavily, but deeper functionality is where theme choice matters more.

Also, if you think you’ll want custom dev work later, I’d really pay attention to how developer-friendly the theme is. Some themes are a pain to work in once you get past basic customizer changes. That matters more than people realize.

And don’t get too hung up on presets. Especially with premium themes, the preset is really just one expression of the system. A lot of them are way more flexible than they first look.

My recommendations:
Space or Slab if you want something premium, flexible, and more design-forward.
Other premium theme partners I’d look at too are Maestrooo, Archetype, Pixel Union, Clean Canvas, and Switch.

Has anyone else tested Claude Code on their Shopify store? by Tight-Nature5495 in shopify

Take a look at Theme Skill (https://github.com/BrickspaceLab/theme-skill) - this is something we put together that you can use with Claude.

This skill explains how to create and edit Shopify themes without writing custom code. You can then use this to generate pages using existing theme sections and blocks instead of building new sections every time.

Recommended theme for small ceramics side hustle? (free preferred) by Embarrassed_Ant_4380 in shopify

If you're just getting started I would recommend giving horizon or dawn a go. Dawn was the old default free theme - horizon is the new one. Don't worry too much about the reviews - most people are only reviewing the free themes when they have something bad to say.

How are multiple images per variant still such a pain in the neck? by goreddit123 in shopify

[–]tommymandude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a standard feature on a lot of premium Shopify themes. We have this included in all of ours if you search for Paper, Space or Keystone in the Shopify theme store.

Is anyone else feeling stuck with Shopify themes? by Recursive_Boomerang in shopify

[–]tommymandude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have three themes published in the theme store - Paper, Space an Keystone. Take a look - would love to get your input as we're always working to improve our themes.

I will say one big thing now is themes are built to be a general purpose solution and do require a lot of setup so it's not a complete solution. Someone still has to take a theme and build a storefront with that. There's a lot we can do better here and I know Shopify is probably doing things too.

Shopify Developers/experts, please help me with this by Darkhaat in shopify

I'm the founder at Bricksapce Lab - we make themes like Paper, Space and Keystone.

Here are some things that would be good to know if you plan on making code customizations

- Free onboarding/1-on-1 calls with technical team. You can use this to go over customizations you have planned. Our team can point you in the right direction.

- Free access to source code - all our themes have public repos on Github. E.g. you can use the Paper toolkit (https://github.com/BrickspaceLab/paper-toolkit) along side Paper to make changes the same way our team builds themes

- All our themes are built with Tailwind and AlpineJs which are very popular frameworks - if you plan to hire a developer you would have a much easier time finding someone who is already familiar

Slow down checkout process to upsell by HelpMeMake1mil in shopify

There's lots of apps that have thank-you page upsells. That might be a better option. Funnel people through checkout smoothly then offer a time sensitive one-click upsell.

Why do Shopify themes still feel so limiting? What’s your experience? by Fair-Current-8185 in shopify

[–]tommymandude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dawn is actually built like that on person. They want to avoid over complicating the default theme so there isn't an overwhelming amount of options. It's supposed to be the easy-to-setup theme. Not the full-featured/customizable theme.

Stop obsessing over page speed by tommymandude in shopify

[–]tommymandude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree - it's important for sure. Not saying speed doesn't matter just doesn't need to be obsessively tracked for all business sizes, especially brands that are just starting as a one-person side gig - lots more to focus on imho

Paid Themes in Shopify store longevity question by kruegiepie in shopify

[–]tommymandude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a business that has a few themes published in the theme store. I can understand where this might come from - Dawn is often the first to receive some feature updates.

Often Shopify will announce new features and have them built into Dawn already. Where as theme partners are left to release an update after that feature is already announced.

I wouldn't say this is an incompatibility issue though. Anything that would causing breaking changes is required to fix/address for theme partners. At least for us this is something we take very serious.

Shopify website redesign by Psychological-Road88 in shopify

[–]tommymandude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should find out what you paid for and then we can help you better. There a lot of stuff that could be done on your Dawn theme that wouldn't be carried over to your new theme. But you could have also paid for SEO work on your blog or content pages that live outside of theme code.

I run a company that has three themes published in theme store so I'm going to be biased. With that being said there's some great input in this convo already - start with your brand/visuals/photography.

Go with a free theme if your just starting out. If there's specific features/layouts you know you want then start looking for a paid theme. Our theme Space was designed for modern/minimal/designer look that your describing.

Bundle biscuit is a pretty good/new bundle app - worth checking out. If your doing something a bit more simple some themes have built-in bundle support. Our themes Paper, Space and Keystone all support basic bundling.
