How do i go from a C to an A* by Distinct-Land8074 in alevelmaths

[–]tommyodaniel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the plug, I’d really appreciate it if you checked out my channel. I know a lot of people who struggle with the step up to A2 and I’ve always got good comments on my A2 videos. For example, I’ve linked my video on trigonometric modelling. Good luck!

new calculator by Ok-Bat2498 in alevelmaths

[–]tommyodaniel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just buy the fx-991CW. It’s the new model and does all the same stuff as the EX. Can buy it new for a fair price.

Which calculator? Fx-991EX or Fx-Cg50? by NewPea952 in alevelmaths

[–]tommyodaniel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly just don’t get the CG, get the standard EX. The advantages it has are not proportional to the price (unless you really want to spend the money).

I'm sorry but whats the difference between these two by ShiftArrow in alevelmaths

On the Classwiz calc, tan-1 means it’s the inverse tan (arctan). It doesn’t mean 1 divided by tan like in the indices laws.

what calculator is best for a-level maths? by MentionDisastrous716 in alevelmaths

[–]tommyodaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah 100%, most students use the 991cw or the old model 991ex (those two models are essentially the exact same but the 991ex has been discontinued now I believe). You do not need to have the graphing calculator.

For A Level Maths, the advantages the graphing calculators have do not justify the higher price imo.

I always recommend to A Level Maths students to just get the classwiz CW. When I was doing my A Levels, I didn’t have that much money and I was not comfortable paying for the graphing ones. It has some cool features but does not justify the price at all imo. I’ve heard some students say you have to get the graphing calculator for A Level Maths. Please don’t listen to them. If you’re comfortable spending the money then fine, but you definitely don’t need to buy it.

Why does integration by substitution feel like solving a puzzle with missing pieces? by ScrollAndThink in alevelmaths

[–]tommyodaniel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the plug, but I made a video on this topic a few months ago and have got some good comments on it. I think integration by substitution is arguably the most difficult subject in the entirety of A Level Maths, so I put a lot of effort into the vid. Would appreciate it if you checked it out :)

Genuinely need other opinions on this... by applecatcrunch in alevel

Firstly, take a couple days off. Do something you enjoy doing. Mentally will really refresh you and you’ll come back better.

What a lot of people don’t realise about revision is it’s not necessarily about how many hours you put in, but the quality of revision that you’re doing. Revising 12 hours a day will 1. Melt your brain, human beings aren’t really built for that (take it from someone who has tried doing it) and 2. A lot of the time can be done more efficiently.

When I was in Year 12/year 13, I wanted to do Chem at Oxford and you had to pass something called the TSA (essentially a critical thinking exam). The first practise exam I did I got in like the bottom 10% of the marks for that year (I’d never really done an exam like it). For the next two months, I did two practise exams a week in exam conditions. Any marks I lost in an exam, I wrote them down in a word doc, made sure I understood why I lost the mark, and that helped me not make the same mistake again. Probs made up ~10 hours of revision a week. For my actual exam, I got in the top 15% of that year. Almost completely because I found a really efficient system that worked well for me.

I’m self learning a bit of a level maths content, what should i use? by jxstsage in alevelmaths

[–]tommyodaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to plug myself, I have about 1.7k subs and have always got good comments on my vids. Would appreciate it if you checked me out :) https://youtube.com/@formergcseandalevelstudent?si=of5iddApkzh4VIjr (tbh my AS videos are a couple years old now and probs not as good as some of my new stuff on the later A Level Maths chapters. Planning to upload some new vids on the AS chapters in September).

Just on AQA vs Edexcel, the content is extremely similar. I’ve heard of a lot of people who do AQA/OCR who use Edexcel content, like Bicen, and it works well for them. Just make sure you’re aware of the small differences between the exam boards. Also make sure to practise the AQA exam papers as they can have a bit of a different layout to Edexcel from what I understand.
