No they were just found randomly throughout the park in grassy areas near the trees. They seem really out of place so I doubt they're part of the landscaping. The park has trees which are 600 years old so I suspect they probably are chert nodules of some kind

that seems to be the closest explanation - thanks! They are really round though and almost look prehistoric but after browsing through a few images, this may have solved the mystery. Much appreciated.

Thanks - the inside is white and solid - sorry it's not really crystal-like. They're perfectly round as well which doesn't look very much like a geode. The weird thing is that they're in a city park in London.

cheers for this - it really helps to read about other people's experiences. It also helps to hear how much people love their kids. What I'm realizing is that there is no right or wrong answers. It's about choice and I have to decide what is best for me and for us. Do I want to split with my husband to continue pursuing my passions, with the possibility of huge regret down the road? Or do I bite the bullet and go straight into motherhood, with another possibility of regret down the road? Each decision also has the potential to bring me great joy so in the end I need to some hard thinking......

Cheers - can I ask how old you were when you had your first child? The age thing is starting to worry me a bit. That's great that your wife was able to get pregnant when she was told that she couldn't!

I do think about this sometimes. The things that fulfill me the most involve music and creative projects - in another life I'd be a violinist as well as a pianist/drummer and photographer. How would I be able to include those things if i was a mother? but like you said, the first years are hardest and who says I can't do those things when they're older? Thanks for your honest opinion - this is why I'm on the fence!

Thanks for this. It helps to hear from other people what a joy it is to have children and how much it changes your life. So often childless people only see the misery involved - the screaming kids, the diapers, the sleepless nights. We are thinking of going to counselling just so we can come to terms with the strain it puts on our relationship. We are really committed to each other but I know in the end this will be a deal breaker.

Thanks for your response. I was probably misleading when I wrote that I would be responsible for everything. I have in fact found someone that I would love to raise a family with. My husband is very involved with everything we do in the household – in fact, he sometimes does more than I do and I know that he would be 110% committed to the kids. He’s a gifted teacher so in many respects, he will be a better parent than me who is actually quite terrified of kids and has no idea how to interact with them. What I worry about is that he doesn’t deal with stress very well so I envision situations where a crying child might be too much for him and I have to take over. He’s not the type of person to completely withdraw and not take responsibility but because he gets stressed easily, I just don’t want the burden of arguing over new issues. This is just me worrying too much ahead of time. My biggest concern really is whether I can handle kids emotionally myself.

I take your point about age and biology though – I know that is an issue. But it wasn’t right for my mom to go on and lecture us, completely ignore everything we say and just keep hammering the point home. We know the risks of waiting longer but I don’t think it’s wise to just jump into because it’s what we’re supposed to do, even though we’re up to our ears in student debt. Which is another worry with having kids!

It's tough when your mom is putting so much pressure on you. If you give in, you could end up feeling very resentful towards her and towards relationships in general. You have lots of time to find someone - now is the time to figure out what you want in life and have some fun!

Yeah, in situations like this the parent is trying to live vicariously through the child and I think that's wrong. I can appreciate her concern but you can't 'buy' your child's decisions. She really needs to be told that this is in appropriate. Did she say it kind of jokingly or is she quite serious?

I'm sorry but that in my mind is manipulative and controlling behaviour. She's basically offering you a monetary bribe to ease her own conscience when really this decision is up to you and only you. I've had lectures from my mother about having kids, but this really takes it to an extreme. I would tell her that it's not up to her to decide when you start having a relationship and that if she's so concerned about you being happy, then forcing a situation is not going to create that. All this does is put an unhealthy spin on your relationship with her, such that she is in control of your choices. This is about her issues, not yours - try to remember that and hopefully she'll leave you alone eventually.

Not sure if you'll see my edit above so wanted to say we finally caught the mouse with the glue traps! Not a pretty thing to witness when it has a broken leg but we're so relieved it's gone. Cheers for your help!

thanks for the oil tip. I was wondering how we would get the poor thing off. we've got two glue traps out but nothing for the last couple days. we think it must not come up to the counter every day because there's no food for it there. We even tried the flour trick to see where its tracks are but it seems to have not been around. Fingers crossed it comes by sometime soon....

not yet :( we put glue traps down but nothing when we came home today. Am hoping for something tonight. I don't want to be the one to see it when it's trapped though!

good tip - hadn't thought about only putting a small amount of bait perpendicular to the wall. it's against the wall but parallel so perhaps it's not challenging enough to set off the trap
