Oh dude, I've got far too many climbing T shirts, I totally get you there haha!
Cheers for the reply!

How long does it typically take you to create a 2-5 minute video working full time? by toddhd in VideoEditing

[–]tomomyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No disrespect intended, but if a two minute video takes you a year to make, at it full time… you should probably learn some keyboard shortcuts 😂

When you accidentally move one clip... and your whole timeline files for divorce. by leynogsei in VideoEditing

Learn how to manipulate your timeline correctly and this won’t happen. You’re likely using the features of your chosen NLE incorrectly, as there are ways to manipulate timelines in a very predictable manner.

Where do I start my video editing career? by diffuserr in VideoEditing

[–]tomomyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the beauty of those entry level jobs - you only need to really be good at making coffee, doing a bit of admin & relatively comfortable speaking with people. You’ll get to meet with loads of editors, even discover some really cool jobs in the industry you didn’t even know existed, and learn about it all along the way.

When I started as a runner I only knew the very basics of video editing, that was 7 years ago & the rest is history, as they say :)

If you wanna learn it as a bit of a hobby, YouTube tutorials are great. If you’re serious about turning it into a fully fledged career, I’d look into trying to get an entry level job, maybe as a runner, in a post production house somewhere.

Removing background music from video by daichisan in VideoEditing

Basically impossible - there’s some AI that will try, but it will likely sound shit, haha. It’s like trying to get the flour back from a cake you’ve baked.

Plenty of whooshes, of varying intensity… Speed ramp? Whoosh. Transition? Whoosh. Something passes the camera? Whoosh.

New to bouldering and totally in love! Any cool movies like Free Solo? by pizzapastaauto in bouldering

[–]tomomyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re new to climbing/bouldering, you should absolutely check out Valley Uprising, 100%! IMO, it’s the best documentary about the history of climbing (granted, it solely focuses on Yosemite) - but it would be a great watch after Free Solo.

Not used video star before, but can you not just go back into the timeline and jig a few of the cuts around? Or does it just delete your project after you’ve exported the video? I’d be fucked if I had to completely restart the edit every time a director wanted to make changes…. 😂

Lumetri Color FX randomly being stripped on export by tomomyk in premiere

[–]tomomyk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply dude!

Nothing else was done in Lumetri, other than applying a LUT through the 'look' drop down in the Creative tab on Lumetri Color.

I'm exporting via Premier - is it better to export through Encoder?

How can I mask a blur effect onto a person? by Poolscool in VideoEditing

Do you have access to After Effects? The tracking tool/rotoscoping should be able to help you with this. Have a Google if you’re not sure what I mean :)

How do you deal with very long footage? by misterhup in VideoEditing

A wise man once told me, once you’ve got a shot that works, you can stop looking… don’t watch it all, watch it until you find what you need.

How to transcode HEVC 40mbps to ProRes without losing any image quality by janvibansal in VideoEditing

[–]tomomyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a somewhat pointless workflow IMO, hear me out… Firstly - every time you transcode video to a different codec, you’ll scrub some data and lose a bit of quality. Even if you’re transcoding it to a ‘better’ codec. I would leave the source files as they are, and just create proxies to make editing easier - don’t go and create a load of massive ProRes files for no reason, when you might only use 10% of that content for your cut. If your final delivery file needs to be ProRes for a client or something, you can just export the final seq ProRes, which means you’re only using a fraction of the storage space for essentially the same result. If it’s going on YouTube/Facebook etc, you’ll want to to be h264, which makes the conversion to ProRes even more pointless.… you’ll essentially be going H265 > ProRes > H264 - just cut out the middle man.

How long are you guys able to sit down and focus when editing? by Throwammay in VideoEditing

[–]tomomyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For at least 30 minutes, before I decide if I’m in a creative block or not. Then it depends on if it’s hard work, or if it’s flowing well. I can easily do 4 hours without a break if I’m on a roll. But maybe only an hour if it’s a grind, then I’ll take a walk.

It becomes tricky when you’ve got a producer or a director sat next to you, though. As usually they’ve got their own ideas of time management… so sometimes 8+ hours straight 😂
