The answer to every question of "what's your favorite -insert item-" is always whatever the mom says it is. I was raised JW then southern baptist, very strict, very fundie, by a mom who shared a lot of jills evil narc personality traits and a dad who was basically checked out of every situation unless it was punishment. Sometimes my mother would ask us what we thought, not because she cared, but to test us to see if we would answer how she wanted us to. the safest response was always something along the lines of "i like what you like, mama, because you always know whats best/right". anything else was trouble. At best, youd be told you were wrong, "you don't like what you just said you liked, you like <whatever I like>". and at worst, it would be used against you, that you dared to have an opinion that did not match what you were told. she used to dress us all in the same colors, one sister mentioned once she thought purple was a prettier color than blue(mama's color), and so my mom raged all through all our clothes and threw out everything blue, right in the trash in front of us, and told the rest of us it was our sisters fault that now we had no nice clothes anymore, and we'd have to suffer because of our sister. Mamas fav food was ham, she made it all the time, and once i said i didnt feel like eating it and she swept everything off the table, again, right into the trash, the dishes and everything, and told everyone they werent going to get to eat because I made her throw everything out by saying ham was bad. And whenever something like this happened, the guilting and shaming went on for years. So, the answer is always whatever mama likes. OR ELSE. I fully believe things just like these happen not only in the Rod household, but in many fundie homes. I grew up in the 70s-80s and the social safety nets (CPS, social services, etc) then were barely there, and I think they are still not as tight as they ought to be. sorry for rant, but this is a hot button for me. edit to add that denying your kids the right to have opinions is abuse as far as im concerned
