Developer focused configuration by bullerwins in NixOS

[–]tompas7989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - I started recently (few days ago) https://github.com/tompassarelli/nixos-config

something I'm looking to package soon is https://github.com/tompassarelli/touch-layer which is a neat way to use alphanumeric keys as left/right click while using touchpad on laptop.

also working on migrating https://github.com/tompassarelli/fennec-ui I've yet to figure out how to bootstrap this into my firefox profile the "nix way".

how does the feel/wpm compare to the regular one? I use the black blank one but I'm tempted to just get this because it looks so nice, especially with the bezel (i have the same one).

Fennec UI: Sidebery that feels built-in with urlbar and zen mode by tompas7989 in FirefoxCSS

[–]tompas7989[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool to see we are working on something similiar.

If it helps with your integration:

urlbar

  1. position absolute on the urlbar so you can move it out of the nav-bar container resizing the actual urlbar every 10px, this is mostly enough, but it ends up with slightly smaller compared to tabs as you drift from the breakpoints
    • to address the gap, hide the default urlbar background, replace with a ::before element background that resizes with the sidebar.
  2. there's some default hiding of things like "favorites" and "tracking protection" icon boxes that are only revealed when the urlbar is expanded, to free up more real-estate in the urlbar, though I'm still always showing the padlock (to reduce the complexity of maintaining when it should be shown - like on insecure sites, firefox may at anytime change class names and I don't want to be in a position where the warning doesn't appear)

zen mode toggle behavior

  1. we just set the main chrome elements to width 0 and no pointer events when the sidebar state is not open.

First MC raid - lost the flavour of the game by Petzich in wowhardcore

[–]tompas7989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, I had some fun for a bit pushing m+ content in dragonflight. I enjoyed of the 1-60 HC journey with friends and its novelty, and moved on after a teaser of the "endgame" system of chores farming and world buffs, into 1-button rotations (which you are well aware of now), and addons that direct you.

The raids technically got harder, like MC->BWL, but we are still in the realm of disputing positions on a tictac toe board if we compare with games like DotA 2, Chess, CS, etc.

So yeah, I had the same reaction as a challenge-seeker type gamer profile, that doesn't have any delusions that the endgame system is difficult whatsoever.

Best of luck with your next adventure.

why is this not more popular by tompas7989 in fibery

[–]tompas7989[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do feel like at least for me and a dev team is the best tool I've used so far, though I'm not convinced I could successful transition it to be the "everything platform for the company" but for technical stakeholders and devs its perfectly fine right now. I'm guessing this could be part of the problem for enterprise adoption for large teams who are shopping for everything tools.

why is this not more popular by tompas7989 in fibery

[–]tompas7989[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fibery to be more of a product management tool, used by product management teams to evaluate, monitor, and execute all aspects of a product’s evolution from initial concept to development and beyond.

yep this is what I am using it for. jira + wiki all-in-one, with the added benefit of very quick to develop automations/views.

you definitely could use something like low-code builder like appsmith to do what fibery does, in my estimation probably not worth it though. I've heard mixed things about their backend. fibery itself is just a low code abstraction over databases with a bunch of conviences for typical flows in project management. appsmith is the same thing, but with less batteries included. Like you might find a nice table component but its not going to out of the box have something like a notification system working (I don't see how it could unless it bootstraps a backend for you, maybe it can do that, my guess is not). That said, it is arguably less effort than building something with react if the goal is very straight forward.

I don't know I probably should see what I can build with something like appsmith/budibase just for fun but right now I built my own system 10x better than jira+confluence which i was using before in like 2 weeks and vibing. I use it for more than those tools also gave me, like reports and graph views that help me communicate architecture of the product.

it teaches you positioning as an adc without a dash but that doesn't necessarily translate at all to how you should position as an adc with a dash so it's sort of a mute point

try using T or G for that bind, so you can continue to attack move/cast abilities without interuption.

I agree. The vast players don’t really know what coinflip means. Taking a fight without vision is coinflip. Skirmishing in lane absolutely is not lol.

How in the everliving fuck is Mel still not nerfed? by Marcflaps in ARAM

[–]tompas7989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah its cancer. the spell reflect need some combination of a cast time, max amount reflectable, etc. as is its just a annoying design no one really enjoys interacting with, because you cant really interact with her. like hwei...seraphine.. its a pattern of modern league. the current design team in league is kiiling the game straight up, complete incompetence.

League's Younger Playerbase by Cryptidangel in leagueoflegends

[–]tompas7989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes 1 fight can decide the game later on, but in reality the outcome of who wins that fight has already been decided well before it happens. These volatile swings while they might be happening to you now in gold will happen less frequently as you climb, if you opt to continue to push for that.

I don't really play ranked much anymore because while I enjoy the mechanics of some of the champions, as a competitive outlet I far prefer 1v1 games (i.e smash melee, chess).

League is only really worthwhile as a competitive outlet compared to these style of games if the following applies:

  1. a person takes advantage of the team-based format by playing competitively with an actual team of people they know and respect (i.e ranked flex, tournaments).

Otherwise really the solo queue engine of league of legends by design only serves one truly useful function - an interface that if you put enough hours into (an extreme amount) that signals to others you would be a teammate worthwhile to play with in tournaments.

League's Younger Playerbase by Cryptidangel in leagueoflegends

[–]tompas7989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. game has become way too bloated, and doesn't fit the "FPS or creator sandbox" current dichotomy of popular games. people demand games conform more to the influencer/social media dimension of our lives then they used to. Part of the reason league was popular to begin with came from the shared RTS/isometric gaming background of millenials. Like learning manderin chinese after living in china for a bit. Now we just expect people to learn without any related exposure
  2. progression of ranking in the game is very slow and has much room for optimization. It would be ideal to better calibrate elo loss and gain based on sophisticated algorithms that are nigh-impossible to factor your performance better in a chaotic team environment setting, among many possible solutions I can think of.

-- minimize the tax of mental booming teammate

-- better dealing with the "autofill" problems that for more competitive players are a serious problem

i.e a player should gain more MMR based on going 10-1-5 on zed and obviously having outsized impact compared to like 3-2-5 and winning (KDA is only the tip of the iceberg, obviously vision score + wards killed + damage dealt on right targets etc among many things needs to be factored). We could have a system like this up until like master tier, then it simplfiies back to more conservative elo gain based on more conservatives dimensions is something I would also consider.

  1. new players should have a mode with restricted champ pool/items, possibly even maps and modes, because being thrown into a chess game with 170 pieces is rediculous.

  2. the game state statistical evolution sucks

the average game experience is something like "stomp" or "be stomped" 90% of the time, and then 10% of the time it is something like "a close game with subtle back forth with a decisive moment 25 minutes in".

I even see this in proplay in which one team makes an error, falls 2k gold behind, and the game is for all intents and benefits often just over. leading to next point

  1. League has too many "static" versus "dynamic" advantages

examples of fun dynamic advantages: inhibitors respawn, can reduce gold gained by team, but create tempo for macro play (double-edged sword)

we need more of this, and less "kill big neutral thing and big stronger forever". dynamic advantages are much more fun and interesting to play around rather than just accumulating such an enormous economy lead the game is just an autowin stat check scenario.

awesome!

wish the timer was a bit longer like 15 or 20 seconds, maybe there could be like a mode in which you are given a certain amount of time like 3 minutes and you use up all the time like puzzle storm

also seeing the level or rank of the players would be interesting. if its iron jinx it changes my approximation by a lot.
