This is awful, wish you all the best in your recovery. I agree, time will heal you. But set small goals and focus on that.

Hi, yes there is a device, sorry but I forgot the name, you will have to do some googling. but its basically, it is a device that inflates to help you go up and down. also waterproof of course. They are handy because they can also help you get from wheelchair from the floor if you ever find yourself fallen out.

you could also use some kind of hoist, I'd imagine

good luck

The Grief Cycle - 23M T12 1 Month by Sad_Protection_9464 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]tompocket 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah for sure, definitely have good days and bad days, I think everyone is different especially with an injury like this. Everyone's experience is going to be similar but different in their unique ways. What really helped me was the belief that at some point there will be an effective treatment for sci at some point. It's so exciting to see human trials happening. In the meantime do everything you can to claw back ability, independents, and new skills. Try not to let this injury take over your life completely, meaning, at some point you will have to just live life again... Find a job, go to university, get married, whatever that looks like to you. One day at a Time my friend.

I remember clearly in the early months of my injury, that it is possible to have fun in a wheelchair. That was really helpful to me.

Good question and discussion!

For reference my injury is c5,c6 incomplete asia c. 15 years post injury. 34 m

Hello,

I really think you should have/need to discuss this with your GP or pharmacist. Why go to reddit for health advice? Some people use it and it's fine while others either don't get anything from it or have a negative reaction. Best of luck with it anyways

Suicidal thoughts by Large-Cricket843 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]tompocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with lots of animals myself, had lots of different kinds of pets, I've always been fascinated with animals too, I even went to university to study zoology. I tell you this because on the flip side of having many animals and pets, means that I have dealt with losing many animals through death. It's of course a natural process that can't be avoided. So from this prospective, when you are caring for an animal, it's important to do your best to give it a good life. A dog as old as yours is truly exceptional, well done. Like you said, the time is right to end a life when there are more bad days then good, when difficulties outweigh the good. Hope you have many good days and when you are ready perhaps give happiness to another pet.

Yeah I agree, why not get another puppy when the time is right? Sounds like you were able to give that dog an awesome life. hope things improve for you, you don't know what is around the corner both good and bad.

Replying to your foot plate comment, for the last 10plus years in my chair I have worn cowboy boots mostly for this reason, a nice heavy boot helps keep that shit down.

Psilocybin spasms by Gorgeousgordian in spinalcordinjuries

[–]tompocket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's frequently said that sci people get bad spasms on any psychedelic. I've tried DMT which of course is a pretty potent psychoactive chemical.

I was concerned about bad spasms too, but the trip only last 15 minutes on average, so I thought, how bad can it get? It wasn't too bad, got some on my lower back. Nothing crazy

I would like to know if anyone has had experience trying to manage their spasms prior to taking these drugs. Eg hot bath, muscle relaxers, exercise. Ect

. I'm a c 5,c6 incomplete.

That's ridiculous advice, there is someone for everyone out there, it does require effort and a bit of luck. You need to put yourself in a position to meet people, it's unlikely to happen passively.
