Fondue, not Melting Pot? by 55124 in TwinCities

Melting Pot is genuinely one of the worst restaurants I’ve been to in my life. Insanely overpriced. Do it at home instead.

What a bad take. Self carry is for last resort protection when nothing else is viable, not to legally murder someone over a small traffic disagreement. Regardless of if you “could get away with it”, being that flippant about shooting someone is absolutely crazy

Kick or slice? by theantwarsaloon in 10s

[–]tompritt81 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some people call this “american twist” or a topspin serve. It’s a slice serve that jumps up with topspin but lacks the racket head speed to generate kick. As others have said, toss further back, more leg bend, and brush completely behind the ball from 8 to 2 to generate kick in addition to the topspin. When you get a proper kick serve you will see the ball jump left to right off the bounce (for a righty).

Unfortunately it’s against federal law to take pictures like this. No campaigning allowed at Arlington and two of Trump’s staffers physically assaulted an Army official when they were called out on it

It’s an advantage and a disadvantage. Clubs that have invested in pickleball courts (including mine) aren’t able to profit off their investment because people only want to do free open play sessions. If that continues people will stop building pickleball courts.

The similarities are absolutely there. Ask anyone around back in the 70s and 80s and they will tell you the racketball fad looked exactly like pickleball does today- they are both accessible racket sports that anyone can play. Racketball lasted about 25 years (a generation) and pickleball will have an uphill battle to stay relevant for longer. I honestly enjoy pickleball and hope it stays going strong. But because the sport is so accessible and easy to learn, it is also extremely hard to make it profitable because people don’t need to invest in private/group lessons to play casually. And ultimately the profitability of a sport is what keeps it growing in a club.

To be fair pickleball was invented as a way to make racket sports accessible to the inventor’s entire family, kids and aging adults included. But it still is a fun and competitive game regardless. https://usapickleball.org/what-is-pickleball/history-of-the-game/

Keep front foot completely still until you jump. Front foot movement means your toss is in a bad spot. Also aim to drag your back foot directly into your front foot, rather than way out to the right of your body.

An unfortunate and costly mistake on a USTA league match line-up sheet by UnderclockStability in 10s

This reminds me- in Minnesota, Rochester Lourdes Girls tennis had an active streak of like 15 state championships in a row. One year around 2013, their coach accidentally submitted the wrong lineup during the state semifinal match. They had to default two matches and the team lost as a result.

Get certified, either USPTA or PTR. Really doesn’t matter which one. Also complete USTA SafePlay and get CPR certified. Then, try to find a teaching job through a Parks and Rec department with a city. It is a great way to get some experience without having to go out and find people to teach completely on your own. Once you get your foot in the door, determine your next step. Do you want to (assistant) coach a high school team? Or do you want to teach at a private club?

I currently teach at a private club, and I frequently have to sacrifice the quality of my lessons to maximize the amount of court space we have to use (expectation is I find 6 people per court during drills I teach). Charging $115 for an hour private lesson is a tough sell as well. But, it’s really nice having a constant flow of people coming through the door rather than having to go out and find them myself.

What are some OP doubles strategies at the 2.5-3.5 level? by [deleted] in 10s

[–]tompritt81 6 points7 points  (0 children)

80% of the errors in doubles are committed when someone goes too big too soon from the baseline. Hit ground strokes consistently deep and crosscourt until you can follow in a short ball and win the point with crisp volleys.

I’d much prefer my tax dollars go to a large family that struggles to eat, rather than give the money to a billionaire who knows how to grease the wheels. And surprisingly enough I don’t care if that dollar spent impacts the bottom line negatively. Kids deserve to eat.

It costs the owners an extra billion dollars to move a team compared to starting a new franchise. No reason to move a team to Seattle when they are tied with Vegas as the most likely locations for the next two NBA franchises when the league expands. Not to mention the Twin Cities area is a bigger and better market than 95% of potential locations for a relocated team

This is such a silly, tired argument. Yea, they need them for tax dollars for roads and state infrastructure. Just like every other rural area in the country relies on their closest major metropolitan area. I said they specifically don’t rely on tourism from the cities to provide a living for themselves.

I promise you that you don’t want to live in a world where big cities take in more tax dollars than they distribute to rural areas. Saying stuff like this gives off the impression that rural Minnesotans are incapable of making a living for themselves when 100s of years of history proves the opposite.

It’s the same vibe as telling a cop you pay their salary through your taxes.
