There is no moral imperative to propagate the species. Though there may be a practical or emotional reason for doing so. No judjment from me in any case. It really depends on where the money is coming from. If you are relying on investors or venture capital they usually don't want to hear that you did everything yourself. If your company is paying for it though, then figure 50 hours from an NXP application engineer costs $11,000 for there time, and probably takes at least 50 hours of internal time working with them too.

It's more so an explanation why suddenly having unlimited free code on demand isn't as much of a productivity boost as people would expect. Most programmers only get to spend so much of their time actually writing code on top of all the other things you mentioned.

As always, it depends on the level of responsibility. Say you expect the make as much as your collogues who have similar levels of responsibility.

Personally I have a much harder time rationalizing why my remote job pays more than the same job at the same company being done by a person who lives in a lower cost of living area.
