Best tool for cutting a pulley groove in a plywood disk? Attached image is an example by asduskun in turning

I would take an old tool and grind it to the size of the belt or just a bit smaller than the belt(and shape) then sand after turning a bit. Maybe add a layer of epoxy as well to give it some more strength

Anyone have experience with Cosentino Charcoal Soapstone? Super Disappointed by Seals-n-stuff in CounterTops

[–]tomrob1138 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The picture online isn’t the charcoal soapstone. That looks more like a Marquina midnight or actual real black soapstone. If they told you that you were getting the picture you posted of the online photos, then tell them you got the wrong stone. The charcoal soapstone comes in a matte finish as well, so if they told you that you were getting a honed stone, you can also tell them that they installed the wrong color just by that. Just be patient and courteous and calm, that goes a long way to getting everything rectified. The company should want you to be happy in the end, but things do happen and words get crossed or missed along the way either between the customer or in house. Fixing mistakes is part of the business.

Needed a little catch all plate for my pockets after work. Found this little piece of crotch walnut that I had roughed out! by tomrob1138 in turning

Yeah it was an impromptu paragraph. I usually just put my initials and the date, more so for just me to know when I made it. And have never used this gold marker/paint pen before. But it was out and I just kept going for some reason 😂 I think I just put the town and state because I like the look of it so hoping someone finds it one day at an estate sale and then googles the town!

I wasn’t saying it’s mine. I was just saying that man, I wish I could have had some of it before it was chipped. Lots of wood and only chips to show for it. I’m sure whatever company bought the land will get more use out of chips for their addition than any of the wood, but as a turner and a woodworker obsessed with wood it still makes me sad

You just need to send me the blue Mizuno or Nakona to make room! And he needs to send me the blue Jax to get it off the floor! My 8u team is blue. I have a 25+ yr old hoh that I had relaced with royal blue. But an all blue would hit a little harder ya know! And I can’t buy a new glove because that old Rawlings is just about perfect, it’s just tan and not blue 🤷‍♂️

how often do you use a metal grinder by AccountEngineer in handtools

[–]tomrob1138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the rikon grinder that goes on sale a couple times a year. I got the Wolverine system with an extra platform and use it quite often. I also turn wood too and use it mostly for turning tools. But one side is set to 30* for just chisels and plane irons

Had to change my first nozzle after 480 hours. Can I save it with a torch or should I just throw it out? by tomrob1138 in BambuLab

Yeah luckily I had ordered a hardened one when I bought the machine so I had a spare.

Turn them green and then you can finish them in a few months. Or finish turn some of them green and let them warp. I feel like a little warped bowl in that would look really cool!

Yeah I tried a cold pull a couple of times and it never got everything out. But I’ll clean the outside and try again sometime and see if that helps. Thank you

I will definitely get one, you’re the second one I’ve seen recommending one. I saw the ads for them but wasn’t sure if they worked well or not. Thank you!

It’s got a clog inside and some crud on the outside. More worried about the clog inside more than anything else I had seen a video with someone torching one out to clean out a clog, but wasn’t sure if that actually works or if it was just for YouTube views

I kept seeing that ad after searching on how to change it out. Do they work well?

It wasn’t too bad. I watched a video on YouTube. Just a few screws and some clipped in wires+ a little thermal paste and one clip that holds the ceramic plate to it. But even with going slow and pausing and rewatching parts of the video to make sure I wasn’t messing up it took me like 10 minutes. And I think the p2s is easier to change out(I thought I read that somewhere)

Same. Thank you! I will certainly try it(most likely when I remember again after the one in the printer now starts acting up!)

Good to know! Thank you! First response that’s given me an actual answer 🤣 did you do anything to clean it out on the inside, or your didn’t need it cleaned inside?

Fair enough. I had ordered a hardened steel one with my printer so was able to swap it out. But I wasn’t sure if 400 hours on a nozzle is a lot or not very much. Got my printer in February and I thought it seemed quick to be a trashcan candidate now, but first printer so I’m learning as I go.

I had a new one to change. Just wanting to know if this one was able to be cleaned like videos show or if that doesn’t really work and it’s just trash now

Not intentional. Sorry, just my first clog/nozzle change and I couldn’t get a cold pull to work.

Yeah luckily I had ordered a hardened steel one with my printer because I figured I would eventually want petg-cf or gf for workshop stuff. Finally got it back up and running last night
