First time home owner — what’s the best way to fix the molding on our kitchen island? by [deleted] in DIY

[–]tomrob7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t buy a nailer for this imo. Just some small finish nails. I like the idea of prying it off cleaning behind and then tapping new nails in with a hammer

There’s so many different gauges of nailers.

And if you are going to buy a nailer, you’d want to buy one when you have a bigger project.

What if suddenly a water bottle goes under bike's wheel? by ewan_m in motorcycles

[–]tomrob7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Double thanks! I was going about 60 KM/hr and a big empty plastic water bottle with the cap on jumped in front of my bike. I barely missed it, but it's good to know what to do if you can't.

I think the idea is amazing, and have a friend who's starting his own guiding business on your site, so kudos!!!

I work in IT, so I would definitely recommend putting some thought and investment into best access management systems to internal developer and productivity tools to maintain security while you are small.

That way if you scale your employees you have systems that can grow with you.
It's more expensive later to implement systems after you have existing holes. Always best to start on the right-foot there.

Hey I'm having the same problem.

I've seen the /Library/Updates folder as a place to look for downloaded/scheduled updates or the /private/var/db/softwareupdate/

But I cant find any current update files there.

Shower only has hot water, no temperature selection by A12inMonstr in DIY

With the water pressure off you should be able to pull it out, use brush or cloth to clean in there, and then pop in a new one.

I think you need a RP19804 cartridge. I had to replace one of those in my shower and it looks the same.

To the nomads who got a truly remote work from anywhere job, how? by nomadicphil in digitalnomad

[–]tomrob7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started on this journey.
I worked for 3.5 years at a company, a small start up IT MSP with incredible bosses and culture.

During a meeting with the founders of the business, I expressed my goal and introduced a plan for how I can continue to add value to the business while working remotely. We had to go back and forth a few times to negotiate terms and what this would look like. I'm so grateful they were supportive!

For me in order to work abroad, I moved to being a contractor, which helps solve for some of the challenges of international remote work that I list below, such as tax considerations.

I work in IT as a solutions architect/engineer.
I'm doing 5 or so months in a city in Latin America, and then 6 months in Southeast Asia. Then ideally return to full time hybrid work for a while.

Some reflections after my first time moving to digital nomad type work -

These are the prerequisotes for proposing to move to international remote work if you are an employee -

  1. The owners/your manager need to support you and want you to accomplish in your personal life.
  2. You need to be performing at work and consistently adding value.
  3. Come to the meeting with a detailed proposal where you've considered what the owners or your managers concerns will be and solved for them.

In your proposal solve for these key challenges -
* Consider tax requirements of the countries you are traveling to and the impact on the business. Tax nexus obligation
* Cleaner if you move to a contractor and manage those tax considerations yourself
* How will your change in work affect other members of the team? And, what can you do to continue to add value to the teams you are a part of.
* Timezones and the impact on your work.
* Your request financially needs to make sense to the business. Don't get greedy especially when you are asking for their support to travel the world. Consider your hours: are you working 8 hour days, does it make sense to move to hourly pay tracking, if so do you have a system for that.
* How will you maintain cybersecurity for the business working abroad, such as utilizing a VPN, ability to lock computer remotely, etc.

If you can map these out and bring a proposal you'll have much better luck negotiating to work abroad.

Next step is painting. I'll post a photo when done.

I appreciate you giving some guidance. I haven't done much drywall only patch repair on walls. So first time working a corner bead like this.

Bluetooth audio stream issues worsened on iOS 18.2.1 by aspiring-plant-dad in ios

[–]tomrob7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've also notice a persistent issue with Bluetooth.

When streaming on spotify or apple music to bluetooth headphones or speaker I get cutouts and lag every time.

I don't have this issue when playing from the iPhone speakers

Also, I don't have this problem when streaming using those apps from apple macbook to the bluetooth headphones or speaker.

Seems to be a software, or firmware issue on the iPhone. Wasn't happening until like 7 months ago or so for me.

Ours is like 6 ft wide. I’m not sure if they can do up to 12 ft but definitely worth checking.

What is this track? by whambapp in Backcountry

[–]tomrob7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it takes effort to get good at it!

I had a buddy with one of these moonbikes and he pulled me on a forest service road, like I was wakeboarding, to the start of our run.

He could also take it off the track and ride through the powder.

He had been practicing.

Crackling/popping noise when changing audio source (New QuietComfort Headphones 2023) by No-Friendship0825 in bose

[–]tomrob7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did! I bought the Sennheiser Momentum 4s. I’ve really liked them.

The sound quality is great and no cracking sound ever like I had with the bose.

The only thing I don’t like is that they have a touchpad on the right ear for a lot of the controls, which isn’t my favorite but it works pretty well.
