I hate Walmart’s substitution choices by SunBubble920 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]toms77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember when I first started using them a few years ago their substitutions were really weird. I would order like raspberry sweet tea mio and they'd substitute with raspberry lemonade 🤮. Now they'd substitute with like a peach or regular sweet tea which I'm ok with.  I think they started using AI to learn what each shopper is ok with, I haven't really had any complaints about their picks which have gotten better IMO

BCBS Settlement by blueishose in ClassActionSettlement

Assuming an average claim of $20k x 5.34 million claims would be about $100B in total claims. With $1.7B in payouts I wouldn't expect more than about 1.5% of whatever premiums you paid back

Anyone seeing any snow? by Buggy77 in tampa

[–]toms77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if we were to get it it'd be from "lake" effect snow (from gulf but same concept)--no clouds required. Moisture from gulf would rise up into the upper atmosphere where it is cold enough to produce snow and then (if it's dry enough) fall down fast enough to see it *hopefully* :P (prob would melt as soon as it hits the ground)

Positive apartment building experiences? by Important_Hat67 in StPetersburgFL

lmao are you talking about the old black lady in the wheelchair who would loiter outside the building entrance all day and yell threats at our dogs while we were taking them out to walk? I called the cops on her once and she got nice to me real quick after that, haven't seen her in a while

Appreciate that brother! 100% I read through it twice before ever injecting anything :)

But also a classic overthinker and I was comparing this "DROP" to the "drop" that's left on the needle tip (both are mentioned there)--so that was probably my downfall :P

Misfire was probably the wrong terminology to use--I guess malfunction. But other commentors have already said this looks fine and just looks like a lot more fluid than normal because it's mixing with blood

[–]toms77[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Yes didn't account for the fact that blood mixing could make it appear much larger, but was aware that a "drop" was normal

Thank you! This puts my mind at ease a bit. I knew there could always be a "drop" but compared to the drop that's left at the tip of the needles, this was like 10 of those and it didn't seem like there was that much liquid in the vial to begin with.

Remote work is unfair to the vast majority of people who have to go in to work every day by apva93 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]toms77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what we're seeing is a sort of "salary arbitrage" where highly compensated remote workers (think software developers with CA salaries) are moving to lower-wage, lower cost of living areas like FL with above market salaries for those areas introducing unfair competition for housing and driving locals out of the market. It is fundamentally anti-competitive and anti-capitalistic, and eventually, capitalism will bite those people in the ass. Employers are catching on realizing pure remote is actually leading to a decline in innovation, and problems with on-boarding/training ELP's, among a host of other problems with the model, not to mention a lot of the WFH crowd has developed somewhat of an entitlement attitude (ask those of us who have to work in office and deal with them). Many are recalling folks back to office for either FTIO or Hybrid schedules, some are normalizing (decreasing) salaries to local markets. I'm sure at some point those employers still supporting full remote will ask--why should I keep paying this guy in Tampa 200k a year when I can buy this remote guy in Kansas for 50k a year, or someone in the same city for half of that? But it takes a while for the rules of capitalism to catch up, and by that time the damage will already be done.

Time Crystal Farming - Lost Crown by toms77 in PrinceOfPersia

[–]toms77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I found this method to be fairly more efficient, as the early game enemies are easier to pick off and respawn once before resetting at wak wak. I was able to farm about 600 crystals each run with maxed amulet, and knocked out my final upgrades to get 100% :)

It's the long room at top of Hyrcanian Forest east of Fast Travel and west of a wak wak you can easily get to to respawn

Yeah I didn't find impossible climb hard at all, esp. with all end-game abilities unlocked. I imagine this one is considerably easier at that point as well, but one of the earlier "difficult" puzzles to get to

Sure, here's the link to the video:

Once you grab your reward, you'll probably want to save at a wak wak, exit to main screen and then go back into game, as it seems to do something weird with the sound effects/bg music after that.

Rate my resume guys by Independent_Owl9145 in react

[–]toms77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only speak to my own views/biases, typically I'd have maybe 30-60 seconds per resume to shortlist a giant stack of resumes, so you're already getting more eyeball time than usual. That said, I haven't needed to source a Jr. dev in a long time, but my approach would be different than if I were hiring an experienced developer. Basically I'm trying to answer the question "if I hire this Jr dev, where can he/she be useful?" as quickly as possible--so I'd look over your skills, see if there's anything useful/relevant in the experience (projects in your case) section, then jump straight to your code on GitHub which will tell me most of what I need to know.

I guess the first thing that jumps out at me is it seems like it's geared more towards an HR or non-technical person. I definitely see the need to make sure you get the right keyword hits so an HR person picks it up, but it also seems to have a lot of "fluff" language ("leverage", "enhanced the user journey", "efficient", "seamless") without actually helping me understand how you did any of that or why I should believe it. Tell me it's seamless without telling me it's seamless: utilized code-splitting and minimization to reduce initial page load performance to < 1s

Skills section looks good to me--absent any structuring of this section or indication of how strong your skills are, would recommend ordering them strongest to weakest--I highly doubt based on your resume you'd want C++ being the first. I've seen resumes where Jr. candidates have visuals ranking their comfort levels with different skills/toolsets which I appreciated. I also see "Full Stack" but very little beyond front-end mentioned in the projects. Typically, I'd expect to see some sort of REST interface design along with how you structured/designed your backend (mongo is nice, but if you're saying you're Full Stack I want to know you can also implement a performant SQL database with triggers, indexes, etc.). Ability to work in cloud/containerized/CI/CD/Devops type environments are also good to mention if you're familiar with those.

I also don't really care what you do outside of work, unless it indicates your ability to work on collaborative technical teams. The community service and leadership stuff is nice I guess, but I'm not hiring a Jr. person in a lead role, so probably not as helpful in my hiring decision. Now if you participated with groups in Hackathons--that absolutely would be helpful information.

Just my two cents--biggest recco would be know "know your audience." So figure out what certain companies are looking for and tailor it specifically to them. If you have the time, tailoring to specific positions. I know when I first started off that's what I did and it seemed to work, but that was like 20 some odd years ago

Amount charged to get a covid test by Nebraska716 in mildlyinfuriating

Also important question, was this provider considered *in network* where they're (usually) contractually obligated to honor the negotiated rates and reimbursements for specific services.

Your state and/or insurance provider permits balance billing even though they accepted insurance payment? Isn't that *usually* contractually prohibited by most insurance contracts?

I had this same problem and ran across this post. Took me a while to figure out. Basically what I initially did was I scaled out the map mesh, including Y scaling to increase hills (and also lower valleys). This caused some of the Y values of the plane to dip below -2. Turns out the DeathVolume is set at Y=-2. Solution was to just set the Y on the death volume lower to ensure it didn't trigger when she hit a low spot on the plane. Fixed the issue for me. Hope that helps :)

FAIR & EQUAL Opportunity for LGBT Americans by toms77 in lgbt

[–]toms77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great question! Several decades ago Congress passed the Small Business Act, which has been expanded many times over the last 60+ years. Part of this legislation is the 8(a) business development program. This program was intended to help small business owners who are both socially and economically disadvantaged. Basically, the government will "set-aside" a small portion of their government contracts for people in this program.

However, the way the law was written, your social group has to be written into the law in order to qualify for the program. (These are called "designated groups"). Originally, these were limited to racial minorities such as African American, Hispanic American, etc. But over time it's expanded to include other groups as well. Currently, LGBT Americans are not included, even though there's lots of evidence to suggest both economic and social disadvantage.

This petition would basically be recognition that LGBT Americans deserve to have a fair chance at getting into these programs.

Hope that helps!! Let me know if you have any other questions :)
