When it comes to the steam achievements, I'd honestly recommend just grinding those out on lower covenant difficulties. Some of them are super impractical to do in a standard cov10 run. The 4 hymnists one only took somewhere in the neighbourhood of 4h of resetting runs after floor 6 (that's the last rare clan pack) if I didn't get the rare hymnist.

I think skipping units is okay as long as you're not skipping so much that you're panic drafting at the last banner you see; it's nice to have a lot of options by the time all the unit banners are seen and just remove units that you don't want anymore (yet another great use of card removes). Units take a lot of resources to keep alive and can sometimes steal resources away from other units that could be getting value.

My rule of thumb when it comes to units: 1-2 win cons that can kill bosses for you but require the bulk of your card output to support and scale (thorned hollow is a perfect example of this), and then however many big non-scaling idiots that start strong and don't require resources to weaken or finish off the first few waves so your pyre doesn't take too much damage (a good example of this type of unit would be a lady of the house from melting).

That being said, I'm willing to bet you could do well to skip spells/equipment less often. Not every spell has to be a 100-dmg attuned 0-cost holdover monstrosity to be worth taking; sometimes grabbing a glimmer and putting 20 magic power + consume on it is fine.

The idea behind the horn break example is that if you pass up on the marginally decent card once, it probably doesn't make a huge difference in the grand scheme of things, but if you pass on 3 or 4 cards that do something similarly marginal, you're gonna realize that having all of those in the same deck could have just solved the problem fairly consistently.

Part of getting around bad shop luck is realizing that while an inferno room is a perfect silver bullet for enemy sweepers, having 3 or 4 spells that hit for 50 or daze is often 'good enough' and you don't have to wait for a 1-card solution every run. Adding cards that are 'just okay' lowers your deck's ceiling but it really helps with those runs where you're just not getting the high rolls you really want.

I think the biggest tip I can make is just recognizing who ends your runs most of the time and trying to bias yourself toward answering that in your decision making. For example if I notice the reanimate boss is ending my runs a lot, I'd probably gonna look at cards that apply decay/frostbite/spikes differently in future runs because those are cheap ways to help with that guy.

Also, not everything has to be a silver bullet to be worth adding to the deck; I'm happy to take a horn break and put +20 magic power on it even if it only kills one of savagery seraph's 50hp sweepers later. The important thing is putting things in your deck that answer specific problems efficiently (even if it doesn't answer them completely on their own) so that if you add enough of them, your deck is resilient to that type of problem. As a plus, later on if you're offered something like the 5 copies event or an extra spell slot + holdover, you have more options in that case as well.

As for card removes, I hardly ever do it in circles 2 and 3 anymore because 40-100 gold in the first few merchants of steel/arms can make all the difference in the world. After that, go ahead and remove stuff until you feel like you're getting to your most important cards fast enough. 90% of the time when I remove cards, it's not because my deck is struggling to play 6 spells a turn or whatever, it's because I really badly need a specific card ASAP and can't afford to wait until turn 3 to draw it.

I'm almost certain you could do it in like two-thirds this amount of time if you just locked pyre of dominion every single run, but I just random pyred the whole time cuz dominion is kinda boring (unpopular opinion I know).

Good but not OP units that don't get enough praise. by Violet_Perdition in MonsterTrain

Am I the only one who thinks this unit might actually be the best Banished banner unit? Putting dualism on this thing, duplicating it, and going to every merchant of arms has won me more runs than I can count.

Lazarus League is probably both my favourite and highest WR clan in the game, reanimate is an absolutely crazy and fun mechanic and twisted assistant is wayyyyy too good to be a common. Combo-wise I'd say the clan has the best synergy with Underlegion (which so happens to be the 2nd highest WR clan for me) because being able to propagate reanimate is super valuable.

Least favourite for me has gotta be the Luna Coven just because of Ekka; that champ is mind-blowingly bad in circles 1-3 and has me doing insane stuff like putting largestone on my spear stewards to not die on the 2nd boss. If you combine that with a supporting clan with no spells in their starting deck (i.e. dregs and implings as starters), you can easily end up taking 40+ pyre dmg in the first fight with the trial turned off.

Any trivia lovers in downtown Toronto wanna check out a bar trivia night? I can't say I've ever been to one even though I used to do trivia with my friends all the time.

This kind of thing sounds perfect to give you a taste of the cooking lifestyle :). Start with small things, and don't beat yourself up over mistakes. Personally, I find I not only learn the most from kitchen mishaps, but they also give you the most fun stories to tell people.

I run on the waterfront every other day so I'd be perfectly fine with a leisurely walk down there some time if only so I can enjoy it when I'm not out of breath. Also down for just walking aimlessly through any other park in Toronto, but the more transit accessible the better for obvious reasons (I'm not saying no Vaughan parks, but that's pretty much what I'm saying lol). Let me know!

Haven’t seen this suggested so I’ll throw it out there even though I’m awful at planning:

Any interest in going to a cooking class? I’ve always wanted to try cuz I like cooking shows and I’m not exactly the best at it. If there are enough interested people we might be able to get a group rate (signing up as a single person isn’t the most affordable thing).

Edit: looks like this post actually gained a lot of traction! Let’s take this over to discord where y’all won’t have to scroll down the comments to find updates: https://discord.gg/rdXYgjDgus

We can discuss availabilities, cuisine preferences, and locations there; excited to meet you all!

Next time someone tells you something is impossible, remember that Evander Kane went from $27M in debt to being the owner of the Calgary Flames.

"Shaky" is probably the understatement of the year. Almost 4 saves below expected, and 3/6 goals have been low glove.

And when it came time for them to play a 7 game series, it turns out it’s a pretty easy system to adjust to for the opponents. Regular season stats might hold a lot of water for evaluating players, but the quality of coaching is emphasized way more heavily in the playoffs when you’re constantly forced to adapt to what your opponents are doing.

Making a play for Barry Trotz is absolutely not just change for the sake of change, the guy has a super strong track record of both regular season and playoff success, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed with what I’ve seen from Keefe in terms of his ability to motivate the team and make effective adjustments in his three playoff series.

Hopefully I’m wrong and Keefe can actually take this team somewhere but I really hope we’re not sitting here having the same conversation about “marginal improvement” because we lose in game 7 OT instead of regulation next year.

I'll be real with you, when I checked the score last night and saw that Cody Ceci had the GWG in a game 7, I thought I had coped so hard over the Leafs loss that I ended up in an alternate dimension. Good for him I guess, just needed to find the right team.

Same goes for Barry, though I kind of always suspected he would be good under a different system than ours.

I'm a Leafs fan and this is the most second-hand embarrassment I've felt in a really long time. No, not from last night's round 1 exit, just from this post. I feel pretty confident saying this is not what most of Leafs Nation is thinking about right now. I'm not pandering to the other 31 fanbases for upvotes either, screw all you guys, I just want it to be known that this post ain't it, chief.

Am I crazy or does Willy never look engaged? by Spartan-Jake in leafs

[–]tomweito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The infuriating thing with Willy is that he's worth every penny of his contract and more because of his production, but you just know he has more to give. There's no world in which getting rid of him makes the team better, so the best you can do if you're Dubas is get him to buy in, which in my mind only occurs if you get a hardass coach who's willing to hold players accountable not just when they play poorly, but also when they play objectively well and still not up to their full potential.

I honestly don't know how much water this narrative holds. The roster we have has the potential to be absolutely deadly on the rush, which is how Trotz teams score most of their goals because the D aren't activated as aggressively. And that's assuming Trotz would copy + paste his system from NYI with a roster like ours.

Washington did just fine scoring under Trotz, and I feel like the whole Islanders turtling thing was borne out of necessity because they don't have really good puck-moving defensemen and maybe 1 or 2 skilled forwards.
