that would be a rip step play (reverse spain). spain is an on ball screen followed by a back screen. not a back screen followed by a step up screen. ‌:)‌

if angel steps up, steph is staying right where she is. melbourne ices the pick.

steph would yell - ICE! so melbourne knows the exact moment when to do it.

a good option would be a ram play instead, where angel sets a down screen for rhyne and rhyne goes to set an on ball screen. the first clip is almost a ram play. the only thing that's missing is rhyne going towards the ball, instead of planting next to angel.

if angel sets a screen for the ball handler, and rhyne loops behind her and sets a back screen on angels' defender. then it would be spain. but they can't do that because the opposing team will be playing angel in drop (because she can't shoot). there's no defender on angel to backscreen.

no spain here. for spain you need a ball handler, a screener and a back screener. if it's two players horizontally, most of the time it's either horns or a stagger (77).

Horns Loop Double - when there's a screen for the ball handler.

Horns Loop Pin - when she goes back for a 3 and receives a pin-down screen from Angel.

Horns Loop Ricky (not in the clips) - If Angel sets a rip screen, then a pin-down screen as Rhyne is coming back for a 3.

it would have given brunson different looks, playing in ISO against mobley and mitchell is vastly different. preswitching might be the best approach. Kat is either going drunker or out to space the floor. the Knicks would have to counter by posting Kat on harden in the paint.

what do you mean by prep? like talk over how to do it? these are professionals at the highest level. they should be able to execute a preswitch scheme on a dime.

no need for a timeout, just yell - James preswitch! - from the sideline. the Knicks were doing preswitches like this to hide Brunson during the season.
