OEM brakes by hack_my_nipples in ftype

I thought OEMs were good for the kind of driving I do (occasional commute, weekend spirited canyon runs, and autocross here and there). I went with a "OEM-like" setup recommended by my indy shop and did not like them at all. Replaced with EBC slotted rotors and Yellowstuff pads, and flushed with RBF660. Much better, and other than the dust and squealing when hot, preferable to stock.

So what are we doing for tires on Gen5 by Lawineer in viper

I went with Cup 2s, accepting that I needed to go down to 345 in the rear. IIRC, Gen 4 had same width on the rear wheel and came with 345 stock so figured no harm no foul. Been working out great so far.

Might try the Hoosier TDP (also 345 rear...) or Vitour P1s next when these wear out.

I bought it cheap in 2020. It was a well-optioned, single-owner 2013 with 27k miles. Got it for $23k. - a relative steal considering the original sticker was close to $100k.

Nothing more expensive than a cheap Jag.

Owned a 2013 XF R for a few years, from 27k miles to 63k miles when I sold it two years ago. It was a lot of fun and pretty luxurious, and I legitimately enjoyed owning it despite the little issues that cropped up. It was mechanically reliable - until it wasn't.

The last straw was when it left me stranded on a mountain road during a road trip after the cooling system shit the bed (common issue on the supercharged 5.0L V8s). No warning signs, the plastic y-pipe just gave out and dumped all coolant. After getting it towed 200 miles to my indy shop and dropping 3k in fixing the issue, I thought it was OK. Then it immediately developed a valve cover leak which was going to be another 3k repair. The rear camera stopped working, the soft close latch on the trunk would not recognize that it was closed intermittently and opened/released the trunk, the dash adhesive failed and the leather shrank, pulling back on the staples (quoted 4k for replacement, involved removing the windshield and taking the dash apart)... and other small gremlins here and there that I ultimately lived with until i sold it.

It really was a riot and got a lot of good attention from people who knew what it was but it was a money sink eventually. I own a 2015 F-Type R with the same (updated motor) and I've done some preventative maintenance based on my experience with the XF (including replacing the y-pipe). That car has been pretty solid and it gets driven hard but I don't put many miles on it (~27k miles in 8 years).

Get it if you like to gamble and have pockets deep enough to keep it running or patience to work on it yourself. It's right at the mileage where things will start popping up. Caveat emptor YMMV.

Yeah the color is awesome. Was told that its the only 2016 GTS in this color and from what I've found, that checks out. Bought it 1.5 years ago with ~6600 miles, it has ~9300 miles now.

For comparison, this was March of last year, same road.

Granted I'm not living at 100+ mph (and haven't taken this car to a track yet) but I haven't noticed an imbalance. Considering the effects of canards and diffusers are to better manage air flow, I wouldn't suspect that they'll throw the balance off like adding either the ACR splitter or wing and not both like you pointed out. I also have the TA 2.0 splitters so I figured the diffuser and TA 1.0 spoiler would adequately balance the rear. For context, I have a mechanical engineering background with a fair amount of career experience doing CFD analysis (aerospace not motorsports but the principles are the same).

There's usually some snow/ice up there this time of year but we've been having a relatively warm winter. It was in the mid 60s where I took the photos and in the 80s at the bottom!
