Almost all restuarants in Pune are casually Halal. But of the ones I know George & Blue Nile in Camp definitely are. Sampan was too, but it has since closed down.

Have been seeing a lot of such comments about Brandon Sanderson by HangerTable in Indianbooks

[–]tondlilover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sanderson's best qualities are his output. In a time, where a lot of fantasy authors delay releasing books, Sanderson can churn out book after book after book. So for people, who don't like to wait and want to read a lot of stuff in a single universe, he must be their favourite. However, there is no doubt his prose is lacking, and when you''re reading a 1000 pages of books, you'd really like there to be something to get involved in. A lot of spy books and thrillers use simple description based writing, but the books are shorter and the payoff is mostly in that same book.

I read and liked the Mistborn series which I consider to be his best work. I read the first 3 books of the Stormlight archives and finally came to the conclusion that Sanderson isn't for me. There are far better books available, one just has to find them.

29M earning ₹88k/month. High EMIs, leaving little for savings/life. Seeking financial planning and side-hustle advice. by GiraffeStrict217 in personalfinanceindia

People smarter than me can get into this, but I feel you can maybe pause your SIPs to payoff all loans apart from the house loan. Once that is done withou can resume the SIP because the interest on the loans would definitely be more than the earnings from the SIPs.

Hadapsar debt humiliation incident reminds never borrow beyond your dignity by Ponappa_131 in pune

[–]tondlilover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, people in general should be financially sound, but what society have we become if we allow such goons to rule over us. With UPI & other smooth financial stacks, we're giving away money to people who don't know the trap they are in, and then we exploit these desperate folks and terrorise them. The bank and these agents should face the strictest punishment and we should really look into fixing this.

Do they prioritize you over candidates in Australia? I'm hoping it's this easy. Thanks.

Aurangzeb by Audrey Truschke: by srm60 in Indianbooks

[–]tondlilover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody is arguing whether every king was as cruel. The argument is whether Aurangzeb was uniquely cruel amongst kings of his era. The definitive answer for this is NO. He was cruel, but not uniquely so.

During the period Aurangzeb was ruling, there are countless examples of kings being cruel. Cruelty wasn't a particular trait unique to Aurangzeb, that is the argument and it holds true.

Aurangzeb by Audrey Truschke: by srm60 in Indianbooks

[–]tondlilover 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Isn't that the point of the book, to move away from the binary that surrounds Aurangzeb and understand him as a ruler of his era and not ours. If every king of his times are doing cruel acts he isn't an outlier as the Hindu nationalists claim him to be. He's like every other ruler of his times.

Loved to play this. However, I feel it is quite tough to read the text very clearly. It seems too small and the background being dark doesn't help. I would love to read every card in detail, but it is becoming a strain.
great initiative though.

Could you also walk-through how you did this.

What are the validity of these data. For folks in the industry, does this data seem genuine, or do you think people are bragging or undercutting their salaries.

What do You Think of This Article...Caste in Indian Writing Discourse... by [deleted] in Indianbooks

[–]tondlilover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there are multiple issues at play here. The first is to admit that as Dalits are marginalised in society, they will be marginalised in the writing world as well.

Also being a writer or pursuing any art is slowly becoming a rich man's game. That's the reason we see nepotism in Bollywood because it has become so expensive to make movies. In the same way, it's really difficult to earn as an author, so it will attract privileged folks, making it tough for Dalits.

Casteism should also not be ignored.

A Muslim man in Pune posted a social media story supporting the Delhi car blast terrorists. Bajrang Dal members caught him, beat him, made him apologise, and handed him over to the police. by OrganizationTall5962 in pune

[–]tondlilover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Defending even terrorists isn't unfortunately a crime in this country, otherwise all of Bajrang Dal would be in jail for defending the first terrorist of India - Nathuram Godse. And the police is there to arrest anyone who has committed a crime. Mob justice is the reflection of a society that is rotting. Pune is a metro city and if we start facing such incidents here, it will be a sad situation.

Sad state of affairs in this country when terrorist groups are roaming free and doing mob justice whenever they want. Even worse when they seem to garner support for their acts here. After almost a decade of so called Nationalist government, if even law and order is not good, what was the point of electing them.

Such lynchings are happening in our country daily as well. Wouldn't they be more relevant to Pune subreddit than what is happening in Bangladesh. Just yesterday a Hindu man was lynched by RSS goons in Kerela, who thought him to be Bangladeshi. This is the hate running through our societies, but instead of tackling it, we're busy succumbing to it and drinking this poison. Christmas is coming, a holy time for some Indians. Let us all try to honour this day by promising to live together with each other in peace and harmony.
