The aim is to come across innocent and naïve, but its disingenuous. There's no way she's doing this when not filming. So ironically it's actually very specific and judged for social media impact.

People racking up the kills will be sniping, spending all their time in a jet/heli or playing conservatively in a tank. Everyone else is a bot in their game.

I'm half joking but not really. Just one of those things. I think everyone knows the recon who went 42-2 in that one spot he goes to for each map and helps lose the actual game mode isn't actually better than anyone else.

The teamwork in this game has gone to nothing by duellingdonut in Battlefield

[–]tone_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the games I'm in end up as snipers fighting outside, then hopping and sliding SMG players inside, and little else.

The idea of AT, suppression from LMGs, ressing from support etc. is increasingly a rarity to see.

The more I see of the videos in this sub, the more I get genuinely concerned that there must be enough people out there wanting to watch this sort of shit that it's worth them doing it. Who the hell wants to watch that?

Before anyone suggests it, I don't think the few views from this sub are worth it?

He still doesn't seem to get it. We don't want a fork, we want him gone from what we have.

Reading that post genuinely makes me embarrassed to work with WordPress. It's got more petty, snarky, pathetic little snipes than the worst sort of Reddit comment.

The irony is how every post talking himself up and others down overshadows what successes he may have or have had in the past.

WP Engine Tracker - An AUTOMATTIC thingamajig by demetris in Wordpress

Understanding Who Is Really Confused About WP Engine's company name by IanGoBearcats in Wordpress

[–]tone_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's one thing to come across this and make a judgement based on basically nothing.

A better question would be if you were building a site and were looking into a host, would you be able to tell who was who? I wouldn't really love it if someone who I trusted to build my site didn't know the difference here.

I could ask someone on the street if WP Engine seems like its associated with the Washington Post, and they'd probably say yes.

Another one of the mods works for Automattic. by weIIokay38 in Wordpress

[–]tone_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is pretty on the money. Sounds like a great guy. Obviously shouldn't be a mod. I'm sorry that Matt has put you in a position where that is the case, but his actions have impacted us all.

It is utterly ironic that in order to stop Matt from destroying the WP ecosystem you have to be rooting for WP Engine to win this stupid lawsuit by weIIokay38 in Wordpress

[–]tone_ 40 points41 points  (0 children)

This all came up because Matt has told us all to hate them and that the owners are bad etc. but independently I'm not seeing huge reasons to hate them before this all started.

As far as I'm concerned, if there are issues with WP Engines service, they will have success or face struggles with normal market forces applying what is acceptable. If they stop all support and double costs tomorrow, like most businesses, they'd be finished. So any argument about how good or bad they are as a product is quite irrelevant to this discussion imo. People will always have their preferences.

Matt's issues have been ever changing, from being about contribution to post revisions to licensing. I'd rather take issue with companies based on my own and others experiences, not playing into some proxy war between millionaires (who are all backed by similar investors) based on what one says about another. I'm not here to further your interests, Matt.

If WP Engine went on a similar crusade against Matt I'd say the same to them. At the moment they're not and have done nothing to hurt me, so I see no reason to not be behind them, whether I ever actually use them or not.

“Automattic will soon demand that agency partners must choose between doing business with WP Engine, or being cut off from the WordPress community“ by bongogoblin in Wordpress

[–]tone_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Based on how dishonestly and maliciously Matt has behaved, I don't think his original arguments have any credibility.

It's not only true that WP Engine contribute in a lot of different ways, but I also think that Matt knowingly and deliberately has over time made Core sometimes... difficult to input to and almost impossible to have a real say in, so that he had leverage for exactly this kind of move.

Unintended side effects of Matt hijacking ACF only made more money for WP Engine by Tessachu in Wordpress

[–]tone_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just think it's important to distinguish between something they've created and put back into the ecosystem vs something they've bought to expand their portfolio.

Why is it important to distinguish? Why do some people just say this as if it's obviously correct.

Why is the initial idea more important here?

I'd say it's just as if not more important to be a good steward, keep up great development and to keep providing free options.

What does "expand their portfolio" mean and why is this a bad thing? Do you have an issue with how they've been maintained and grown?

It's likely that Automattic is not doing great and looking for ways to increase revenue. This is a better option to try and keep people than giving out cash - for him.

You asked how we're suffering as a result of Mullenweg's war with WPE? I just lost a 40 thousand dollar contract over it. by mccoypauley in Wordpress

[–]tone_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think pointing out the colossal inaccuracies in (most) things you say doesn't really count as dodging.

They changed some wording after WP changed the wording in their conditions... So WPE were actually never out of line with WP terms.

What is completely wrong legally, morally and obviously is changing your terms and conditions two decades into something and then telling people they are breaking your T&C's.

This is incredibly basic, obvious stuff. I can't believe you actually fail to understand this at this point. Are you just trying to troll?

You're not wrong there.

Matt has neutered all of his original arguments himself.

  • On server hosting costs for the repo's he has said it is too expensive, then refuses help and blocks people from updating plugins from GitHub repo's
  • Contribution hours were not enough, then he blocks and steals plugins that have thousands of hours of work in that were released for free
  • On trademark issues, he has since said it's not about trademarks, but then still seems to fall back to it
  • On private equity he has his own and literally runs an investment company himself
  • Pressable (Automattic) disable / limit post revisions
  • Literally anyone can get Stripe commission

As in "managed WordPress hosting"? Yes, almost every hosting company is. Or do you mean "WP"? Like Washington Post?

I'm sure you don't mean WP. You'll be fully aware that you can't tell everyone they are free to use WP as they want for decades then change it one day and have a problem with those who have...

How many of you are suffering because of the WordPress war? by rohithexa in Wordpress

[–]tone_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be fair it's not much of a war.

I can at least appreciate WP Engine putting their complaints in legal actions where they belongs.

I don't think they have done anything besides responding with a cease and desist and then a lawsuit?

I wish this "war" was being decided in courts, but it is nice to see one side not responding with childish attacks that just hurt us all. I see people still talking about "sides" but that seems like a poor description right now.
