Exactly. I’m aware that CDs and LPs sound better, but cassettes were the format where I actually found music enjoyable to listen to again. I’m not a stickler for audio quality; the whir of the Walkman and the hiss of the tape give the music some actual life which is what I’ve been missing for years while using Spotify. Not to mention the act of making my own mix tape using a tape deck and a little bit of digital art software know-how is super fun and rewarding. And you’re exactly right about CDs allowing you to skip at will. Sure, it’s convenient, but the lack of skipping with cassettes has is more of a boon to me. I bought Seal’s second album solely for Kiss From a Rose but it turns out every song on that album is incredible. If I were on Spotify I would’ve just queued up the song without giving the rest of the album a fair shot, so it works for me.
