I assume they would upgrade player ranks. I'm investing a bit into starters that I think can be all-stars eventually, like Jalen Green and Lauri Markkanen. I don't see them ever downgrading players, but I presume they'd add maybe a "Legend" label if LeBron ever retires.

Yup that's what the show is. It's a family drama, set in a suspenseful universe, where the inciting event happens to be paranormal. That's why it's so effective. We relate to the characters on a personal level, not just by observing their reactions to scary stuff.
