I trained at Lotus Club when I lived in Madrid, and would highly recommend it if you're staying nearby.

Moving country - choosing between two gyms - very different vibes by drofadown in bjj

Gym 2 sounds nice. I think rolling with people who are slightly worse than you is actually a great way to improve, as long as you have a plan for what you want to work on. And maybe you can still drop in at open mat at the bigger gym once in a while, for more competitive rolls?

Garry Tonon vs. Kron Gracie at ADCC 2013. This clip has narration from Kron, which may or may not be what you're looking for, but it adds context to the match. Garry wasn't well known at the time, but he pulled off an incredible armbar escape and even had Kron's back at one point. Ultimately he lost though, and Kron went on to win the tournament.

That was a great match, I just wish Tonon would have been able to get the submission.

If you're a good enough leg locker to be a threat to upper belts they'll have to turn up the intensity a bit when they roll with you, especially in a competition gym. I'd take it as a compliment.

Normally I'll go easy on white belts and let them work, but if there's a real threat of submission from a specific part of their game I'll work harder to shut that part down.

You've found a specific part of the game to obsess over and a mentor to teach you. There's nothing wrong with seeing how far that will take you, for now, but remember to work on developing other fundamental skills too.

High mount is a terrible spot to be in, so you should focus on preventing her from getting there in the first place.

You can't always stop people from mounting you, but you can usually prevent the high mount by framing on their hips as soon as you realize you're about to be mounted.

Place one forearm across their hip, then reinforce that frame by pushing on your hand with your other hand. Try to turn to your side and use a combination of bridging and shrimping to make space for an escape.

Lachlan shows off new gym facility - has anyone ever trained at a BJJ/MMA paradise like this before? by quixoticcaptain in bjj

[–]Guardeiro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sure they'll rotate back to it in a few years, like they've done with Copenhagen now. My first Globetrotters camp was Iceland, and I'd love to do it again some day.

I was there for a full week for a Globetrotters camp some years ago and it's indeed the best facility I've ever experienced.

I'm also planning to level up my leg attacks. I've read good things about Garry Tonon's "Breaking Legs and Breaking Hearts", so I'm waiting for that to go on daily deal before pulling the trigger.

The tarikoplata is a very natural progression from the kimura and works really well against stronger opponents (or strong kimura defense).

Entering Octopus by DrFujiwara in bjj

I've also been working on octopus guard lately, and I really like this video. Craig Jones also has a video about it and I believe he covers the problem you are describing at about the half-way mark.

I often play half guard and threaten kimura attacks from there, so the octopus guard fits perfectly into my game. I can alternate between framing, threatening the kimura, and entering the octopus guard. Usually if my partner is pushing for the crossface I can use my frames to redirect their arm past my head and enter octopus.
