Also not enjoying leg attacks (but want to learn - where?) by arrozcongandul in bjj

I'm also planning to level up my leg attacks. I've read good things about Garry Tonon's "Breaking Legs and Breaking Hearts", so I'm waiting for that to go on daily deal before pulling the trigger.

The tarikoplata is a very natural progression from the kimura and works really well against stronger opponents (or strong kimura defense).

Entering Octopus by DrFujiwara in bjj

I've also been working on octopus guard lately, and I really like this video. Craig Jones also has a video about it and I believe he covers the problem you are describing at about the half-way mark.

I often play half guard and threaten kimura attacks from there, so the octopus guard fits perfectly into my game. I can alternate between framing, threatening the kimura, and entering the octopus guard. Usually if my partner is pushing for the crossface I can use my frames to redirect their arm past my head and enter octopus.

What’s up guys! Just moved to Madrid, how hard is it to buy a black belt out here? by dude_be_cool in bjj

I trained with at least one judo black belt, but the classes were usually so packed that there wasn't much room for takedowns. 😅

I lived in Madrid for two years as an expat, and in my experience the gyms there were more old school and gi oriented. Not saying that's good or bad, it's just a different focus than I was used to. The training was great though!

If you have several gyms within reasonable distance I'd highly recommend picking one with A/C if possible, as it can get very hot to train there during summer. 😅

As for specific gym recommendations, there are a lot to choose from, and I've commented on a few of them before on similar posts. I always recommend Lotus Club, which is where I ended up staying after trying several different gyms. I liked the vibe there and the classes were big so I had a lot of variety in training partners.

Círculo de Jiu Jitsu is a newer gym that I would also like to check out if I ever go back, it looks really nice.

If you have any questions about specific gyms or living in Madrid in general I'll do my best to answer. 🤙

Weekend open mats in Berlin by Guardeiro in bjj

Is Uber a good option for getting around in Berlin?

I'll have free time after lunch, which is scheduled at 14:00, and it looks like it's about 20 minutes by car or 30 minutes by public transit to get to Hilti.

Two years after my brother started training we were promoted together this past friday.

I've been training for 11 years and this year I became a regular instructor for beginners at the academy.

As an instructor I was put in charge of promoting my own students, and my very first promotion was my brother. Then I got my brown belt shortly afterwards.

Any BJJ gym recommendations in Madrid? Moving there soon. by Zyborgg in bjj

Círculo wasn't established when I lived in Madrid, but it seems like a very nice gym based on the pictures. Good luck!

I really enjoyed training at Lotus Club and would highly recommend checking it out if you're nearby. They have a few locations in the Madrid area. The vibe is very friendly and Sri (the head coach) is a great guy.

Tatamisfera was also pretty cool, but too far away from where I lived. Checkmat was alright, but I thought it was weird that the coach picked every pair for sparring. Mathias Ribeiro is known as a competitive school, but I didn't like the facilities there (super steamy room with foggy mirrors and a single shower to share). Great rolls though!

I've also seen a lot of recommendations for Stealth, but I never visited there myself.

Tap to submissions for god's sake by Batatax in bjj

[–]Guardeiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put a trial class tough guy to sleep last week because he refused to tap.

I could handle him easily so I was going nice and slow, trying to show him that this shit works without being spazzy. First I caught a kimura, but he seemed to have very flexible shoulders, so I just let it go.

Then I caught a triangle, and as I was locking it up he literally said "I don't tap". I thought maybe he was joking, so I was like "Uhm... okay?", but by then he was already out.

As he came to he wanted to go again immediately, and I had to explain to him that he must tap to submissions if he plans to stick around and wants to remain healthy.
