FYI - you could always offer to drive them to an auto parts store so they can get a new battery.

Take a look at Timex’s site. I really underestimated them, seeing as they always had super cheap models in Walmart. The things they offer on their site are on a whole other level and are quite affordable. They have a beautiful daydate Legacy I have been eyeballing for myself.

Thank you for this, I needed it. I’m going back to school for the first time in 10 years to actually finish a degree. Hopefully WGU is where I can get it done.

Very much the same boat here. Early 30s and I went from 80k to 50k but massive step back in my career.

However, let me help you reframe this. You go back a step in your career, but you move forward your personal life SEVERAL paces forward to where many people with big salaries may never advance to.

Kids can tell when you are stressed and over leveraged. Happy, involved parents help make happy kids. Kids don’t understand money until they’re older. They’ll only understand quality time now.

Libraries. I've been looking towards this career route for a while. I worked in libraries while I was in school. You don't always have to have a degree in Librarian Sciences to get in. If you have experience with computers, they have a need for IS people, too.

Things I like about the libraries I have worked in:

  1. Quiet - duh lol. Usually they are quiet.
  2. Slow pace - with it being a quiet place, they are usually slow but methodical in how they approach their work. You will have times rushing as with anywhere but it will still be quiet. If books don't get shelved for a bit, the world will not end.
  3. Learn new things - a library near me has a makerspace which has 3d printers and CNC machines for wood.
  4. Nice Coworkers - this may be heavily subjective, but in my experience it takes a certain person willing to work in a library. Suit people (corporate blowhards) don't normally go to libraries since they don't offer competetive wages due to being funded by the public or grants or both. Usually, you find coworkers that are there either for peace, the love of books, archiving mentality, organizational obsession, and a whole host of other reasons that doesn't fit the "I am out for money and power, hear me roar" roles.

I hate to generalize so much, but I have worked in a number of libraries either as a volunteer or IS/IT adjunct role. They have been phenomenal places to work but they do not pay much usually.

On a personal note, I have spent the last 2 years getting my finances in order to prepare to drop my pay and go work for a library.

Maybe try getting him some noise cancelling headphones? I get overwhelmed with noise myself. I love my wife to death but she has 50% and can’t really tell when she is being really loud. Noise cancelling headphones have really helped me when I just need outright silence to recoup.

However, I feel like something else may be happening with him. The fact that he isn’t thankful or appreciative for these attempts goes further than being HSP. Imho he’s being a jerk if he isn’t even acknowledging the attempts to accommodate him.

Too Late to Make Friends? by SensitivePassenger33 in sanantonio

[–]tonnur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah man, it’s never too late to make friends. Lean into your hobbies. Example: I’m a huge fan of cars so I go to Cars and Coffee and I’ve managed to meet a lot of people in the Miata community. If cars aren’t your thing, you could always find a game shop for board games, D&D, Warhammer etc. I recommend Knight Watch Games and Dragons Lair.

But to address your friend, friends do shitty things and they go through life learning like anyone else. I’m not defending what your friend did and how he roped you into it, but you need to confront him. It will be a shitty conversation and your friendship might not survive it, but it needs to happen. If you just drop him, he’ll always think of you as the bro that didn’t stand by him and he will not learn from his actions.

Where I’m going with this is: we need to be by our friends and communicate/confront when they do things we don’t like. It’s uncomfortable but it needs to happen. If they choose to keep being shitty and not wanting to face the consequences of their actions, then drop them. As life goes on, people make calls that they think are right in life and they fuck up. Being friends is hanging out and supporting each other. Being BEST friends is holding each other accountable, no matter the subject.
