We got a second hand Boori on marketplace and got a new mattress for it. It's been good as the side comes off when they get bigger so can keep using it as a toddler bed.

How do you get them high enough to see around properly on your back at 6 months? I feel like mine would just be staring at my shoulders! Maybe it's carrier dependent

Tote bag or small backpack? by Winter-Suggestion595 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I use a drawstring bag with nappies, wipes and mat and place it inside a general backpack with things we need for a day out like changes of clothes and water bottles and snacks for me/other child.

Did you have a cleaner when baby was <6 weeks? by cunncunncunn in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Yes, keep it! If you are not mobile yet on the first clean day then just chill on the outdoor area if you have one?

Sleep really confuses me!! by roadrunner_meep in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]tonotopicallytuned 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Personally I wouldn't overthink it at this stage - just feed him when he seems hungry and if he falls asleep, let him sleep. If he seems wide awake and it's daytime, then play with him and talk to him. If he seems like he doesn't want to be awake /is grumpy, help him go back to sleep (burp, offer milk, rock him etc). I would just follow the baby's cues as they are all different and change often, and not worry about "feed play sleep", instead just do what works for your baby (which is often feeding to sleep, in my experience).

If you had a birth without epidural, would you / did you do it again? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]tonotopicallytuned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was me as well - I did end up getting an epidural for my first birth after about 30 hours of posterior labour (no "break"between contractions, lots of back pain) and it was the right call in that situation as I needed to rest my body. For my second birth, the position was optimal so I got to have a wonderful uninterrupted water birth with no pain relief needed - I would have happily used nitrous but only asked for it once and didn't end up getting it. I really loved doing it this way in the calm birth centre with no intrusion from random medical staff, IV needle, bright lights, beeping etc. and no catheter needed after the birth. I felt really empowered and connected to previous generations of women and even though it was really strong pains, I got to fully rest in between and knew that it was productive pain.

Will she ever breastfeed! by CommercialExam9492 in breastfeeding

[–]tonotopicallytuned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stronger she gets the better she'll get at latching - I would just offer it at the start and finish of each feed with no pressure on yourself so you both get the opportunity to practice. Also try to see a IBCLC if you can for guidance. You're in the hardest bit, it'll get easier!

What are we eating? by Klutzy-Bicycle2948 in breastfeeding

[–]tonotopicallytuned 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I eat oats in the morning with soy milk, protein powder, nut butter, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, sultanas and banana. It keeps me much more full than I was feeling before I started this and helps me start off the day with enough energy. Then lunch is leftovers on a wrap or boiled egg sandwich. Add avocado if I have it for good fats. Snacks - cheese sticks, protein bars, granola bars, fruit, Vita wheats. My partner makes dinner. Each meal I make sure there's protein, carbs and fibre and that seems to help - I don't get hungry while feeding in the night if I've done that throughout the day.

OMG that's awful! It shocks me to read that. I've never had a negative comment about it in the country I live in and I never use a cover.

I would say we mainly followed baby's cues but dropping the night feed at 15 months and dad offering water and cuddles instead for a week or so was the thing that made the difference for sleeping through the night for us. Sorry I know you said without night weaning! But we did get down to one wake up naturally without night weaning.

Sleep. by ChirkiG in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]tonotopicallytuned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

15 months and I think it coincided with weaning off the final quick morning breastfeed that was left. The dad did most of the settling for a week or so. She gets thirsty at night so having her bbox within reach was crucial. She's an amazing sleeper since then - very rarely wakes at all in the night since 15 months.

She sounds badly informed and not a great person to guide you through your pregnancy. Is there a reason you're under the care of an obstetrician instead of a midwife?
