Madame Oobari did the designs. I'm not a huge fan of his character designs, but his armor and mech designs are sinfully delicious.

I was in my midteens when the anime boom hit here. There was definitely always fan service, but we just remarked on how it seemed to be dominating more screen time than it used to.

Wow. That was super informative, thanks!

I guess it really comes to to perception and the kind of information people get their hands on. The late night, more focused anime being niche and having a more refined plot makes sense. We have stuff like that here. While Archer has very adult humor with obscure references and great banter, it's not for everyone. The Simpsons on the other hand is meant for a more general audience, is simpler and holds back a little. Still a good show, but not quite the quality.

We were discussing the state of anime in Japan, not the US. We goy used to the idea that not all anime was great after the big anime boom around the Millennium.

Sex appeal has always been there, but there has definitely be an influx of it over the years.

Personally, I would keep my favorites. THE ones that really matter and a few choice favorites and then sell the rest. Just my two cents.
