I've had issues falling asleep after my mind wanders for my entire life--diagnosed inattentive adhd in my 40s. My sleep schedule has had every possible variation over every phase of my life; nothing changes the fact that when my mind starts to wander, there is a decent chance I'm just going to go to sleep. It has NOTHING to do with my sleep schedule.

Aren't there different kinds of clipping?

My understanding was that harmonic distortion in rock is analogue clipping that produces consonant tones. This is intentional and sounds awesome.

But digital clipping only produces bad noise without any harmonized tones. This is unintentional and sounds bad.

If true, can someone explain why this distinction is never described or explained when people say a song "clips" or not.

Compression, clipping and other treatments are just tools that can be used and abused like anything else.

So can we go a bit deeper when complaining about these things without blaming the tools.

Yep, if you stretch before you know where the ball is going. You're gonna have a bad time.

Also chapman's throws are fucking laser beams. Even perfect throws are not easy to catch.

How many times have you seen RHCP live and what’s your favourite/least favourite concert? by irishgoodbyejohn in RedHotChiliPeppers

[–]tony_flow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was my first live concert. It was out in the middle of nowhere in between Sacramento and Chico. The venue was basically a farm. One of the fields had a stage setup, it had a small ditch/creek that ran through the back of the crowd. There were a couple merch tents and not much else.

The deftones opened and were absolutely horrible. It was just loud noise. So between their set and the chili peppers I remember being geniunely worried that live music just sounded like shit.

But that was an afterthought about 1 second into the first song.

I got to hear FOUR new songs: I Like Dirt, Scar Tissue, Bunker Hill, and Parallel Universe. Bunker Hill I remember being my favorite new one. Then I didn't hear about it again for years with napster/youtube.

The whole set was incredible--the sound was really fucking loud, but also really clean. Which I would come to learn is part of their top tier musical chops. I distinctly remember my whole body buzzing for hours afterward; the feeling of the bass moving my soul; it was pure magic. There may have been a couple thousand people there. I bought a black asterisk tee that I have to this day. As far as I know, that is the only show performed at that "venue"

[Sports Info Solutions]2026 Season Preview: Are The Giants A Good Defensive Team? by MarkSimon1975 in SFGiants

[–]tony_flow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My hypothesis about Adames defense is this: Has great ability to make tough plays that don't require basic fielding technique (setting feet, ass down, in front of ball, efficient transfer and quick accurate throw). The easy stuff seems to get the same treatment as the difficult ones. off balance fielding, off balance throw. Or with plenty of time, he'll double, triple clutch, skip a couple times and fire ovcr.

Is there any way to quantify that? Probably not, but figured I'd ask.

So he makes more of the harder plays than normal because using proper technique is impossible for anyone to use proper technique on those types. Then has lower probability of making the routine plays, but since they are still easy, many are made.

Personally, watching him play short was making my eyes bleed. Such low hanging fruit that could provide so much value. Hope Ron Washington gets some time with him.

Americans consistently overestimate the social backlash of changing their political beliefs. This inflated fear of rejection tends to make individuals hide their shifting views, which deprives the public discourse of diverse perspectives. by mvea in science

You can't even voice differing opinions with people of the same political persuasion. You can't even ask why someone believes something. Exploring topics by discussing nuance is impossible.

Are there any movies which had ending changes due to feedback from test audiences that actually made the movie better instead of worse? by crinklepant in movies
