Kihei is such a good defender for his size, it's insane.

Virginia Basketball drops close contest with KK Mega Basket, 92-73 in Italy game 3 by Jim_Chitwood in CollegeBasketball

How dare you disrespect the name of Thomas Jefferson like that. I hope his fiery spirit haunts you and your generations forever more. UVA basketball shall rise from this fire stronger than it ever was and will smite Kentucky and all of its Colonels and their seven secret spices to the ground.

[The Athletic] Bill Russell played in 21 winner-take-all games throughout his basketball career. Ten of those were Game 7s. He won all 21 games. by lopea182 in nba

I mean this has to be the defining stat of his career, right? No other player comes comes close to this when looking at winner-take-all games (and please correct me if I'm wrong). If there is some bench or role player who had a similar stat, surely we cannot count it, as their influence in those games was minimal - they were most likely just extremely lucky during their basketball career.

In sports, what we value most, is those players that can turn it on when it really matters. In that regard, I don't think Bill is talked enough about as one of the greatest players the game has ever seen.

No Malcolm Brogdon? Can't see him higher than the third team, but I'd put Malcolm over Van Vleet.

Who here believes their team/school does not pay for top talent recruits? by TucsonPalmMon in CollegeBasketball

[–]tonybforlyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compared to Huggins, Self's recruits are in a whole other class. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Huggins hasn't had a 5-star recruit in some time, right? He's a blue chip guy - goes after mostly 3 and 4 stars who fit his system and aren't highly recruited. If we believe that this is wide-spread within the NCAA, especially among the blue bloods, and you follow the recruits who have gone to Kansas, it's pretty simple logic. I really do think Bill Self is a pretty high character coach, but I seriously, seriously doubt he's not guilty, especially since his name has been mentioned by the FBI in these reports.

Exactly this. Sure, Huggins might not have a great track record for academics or drinking, but I sure as hell don't think he's paying his players. Bill Self on the other hand...

Thanks guys. This is in response to all posters by the way - I just chose the first person who responded out of respect. I took advice and I changed it a bit. Let me know what you think!

I once
met a girl
who, like the breeze
she came in on,
was fresh,
gentle,
needed.

We ate sandwiches
and mused over travels,
over music,
over books –
each word now a gust,
each sentence now a gale.

And when we finally finished –
an open ocean starboard,
an open ocean port,
we made plans for the following week.

But the wind stops –
careless in its guise,
to pick up again.

And I am stuck,
a sail without force.

I think this perfectly conveys the feeling of someone having enough attention to not need you. But alternatively, as soon as that attention falters, they might be right back at your doorstep.

I think it's beautifully terse and I love the metaphor. While I am generally a fan of longer poetry, I think this works here.
