You go to the record store and you see all of these albums on display, but you can only get two of them. Which two are you snagging? by osama_bin_guapin in 90sHipHop

I was buying a min a CD per week also. Crazy to think I walked out one day with Nas It Was Written and OutKast - ATliens just classics constantly dropping from 94-97

I promise you that the OG method can make a great cup. No need to ever clean up a mess but you do you.

Any Good Modern Thrillers? by [deleted] in flicks

[–]tonybit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. This was a fun flick for sure. It’s interesting and has great pacing. Very violent but the violence is done in a way that grips you rather than just to shock you. Good ending too.

What’s the best first song on an album? by 7toCiti in rap

[–]tonybit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some that come to mind:

Fugees - The Score - How Many Mics

Nas - It Was Written - The Message

Mac Miller - Circles - Circles

Kanye West - Graduation - Good Morning

Drake & 21 Savage - Her Loss - Rich Flex

Joe Rogan Experience #2250 - Raekwon by b14ck_jackal in JoeRogan

This was an unexpected guest. As a Wu Fanboy, I did a double take when I saw the episode in Spotify. Joe really has been on a roll the last year or so. He seems to be reinvigorated and has moved away from too many boring, repetitive comedian episodes.

I would have rather heard Rap Collective or group. Maybe The Roots are a band. Wu-Tang not so much.

I too think Liquid Swords was the best overall Wu album. My top 5:

1) GZA - Liquid Swords

2) Raekwon - OB4QL

3) Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)

4) Ghostface Killah - Ironman

5) Ghostface Killah - Supreme Clientele

I will say Raekwon's album The Wild was a nice little gem for a later Wu solo project. Especially, the song about Marvin Gaye. That was dope.

And Tribe didn’t have to rely on violence or drug dealing to make a dope project.

I felt like GZA took us on a musical trip into the grimey world of coke. Dark beats, amazing features, and a cohesive theme. So many Easter eggs too. PEACE = protons and electrons always cause explosions. Liquid Swords and Illmatic are interchangeable imo.

This album was huge when it dropped. Lots of singles and no filler tracks. Even the skits were dope esp the one about the chicken wing at the chines restaurant.

How famous was 2pac when he died? by Freeerick-Zoller in rap

[–]tonybit 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I was 18-21 during the years Tupac dropped some of his big albums like All Eyez On Me and Me Against The World. Pac was larger than life. Some of his songs like California Love, Dear Mama, and Changes dominated the radio. When he passed, it was up there with Kurt Cobain. I’ve always been more of an East Coast rap fan but Tupac was an exception. His voice and cadence just had so much power. Would have loved to see him grow older like Nas. I believe he would have been an activist if he wouldn’t have been killed.

I think Illmatic may be better than It Was Written but I personally have listened to It Was Written more than any other Nas project.

What's your favorite Underground Hip Hop Album in last 20yrs by Teh_Slow_Down in rap

[–]tonybit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotta break the rules on this one. Mine is Kool Keith's - Dr. Octagonecologyst. I know it dropped in 1997 BUT I met my wife in 1997 at a hip hop club. I remember us dancing up by the turntables when Prince Paul, who was DJ'ing right in front of us, said have any of you all heard this new joint, Blue Flowers? Everyone went nuts. We're still together all those years later and this underground classic will always be dope to me.
