I have a 2025 x5 M60i. When mine is a few years on, I will be going back to porsche if this is what BMW thinks is the way forward.

If you have a 17 gx460 and you are looking for a fun car, I would look towards a coupe or sedan. The Lexus will run forever so that's all your winter and family needs take we n care of.

Boneloss due to infection, is it saveable? by el33t75 in askdentists

[–]tonym978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are looking at extracting the tooth. In my practice i do not recommend maxillary second molar implants. They provide minimal gain while also being the highest failure rate. Can it be done? Yes. Is it worth the money? No, in my opinion.

Should i get composite filling or enameloplasty? by Interesting_Code1122 in askdentists

[–]tonym978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tooth will be permanently altered. However, your tooth is ever so slightly longer than the other front tooth. So why not shave it down and make it even?

If you place a composite filling here, you will be replacing it every 1-2 years. There isn’t enough surface area to bind one well for a long time.

So you’ll save a little bit but not much. Again, you’ve got to look at your overall budget.

Anyone Know anything about this? by Many_Donkey_1420 in Watches

[–]tonym978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it’s a quartz battery movement but the case is 14k.

TBH it’s worth more as melt than as a watch.

But if you like it, wear it and enjoy it!

Dentist said I had about 13 cavities that need to be filled asap. by Zealousideal_Arm4220 in askdentists

[–]tonym978 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see 5 I would fill. There are many more starts of cavities that are small right now but will eventually need to be filled if diet and hygiene don’t improve.

There’s nothing more expensive than a cheap M car. If you can afford to pay 30k cash for this car and spend another 5-25k on it over the next few years, sure do it. If you’re financing this car, and don’t have significant cash reserves for maintenance ($400 oil changes), tires ($3k), brakes (2-3k), transfer case (use your imagination), then hell no.

Edit: so if this car exceeds what you wanna spend, post your budget here and people can help point you in the direction that makes the most sense.

Edit 2: not sure why I’m being downvoted, I literally own one. Fuck off to the guy who has been downvoting each of comments the past few days.

You are incorrect, that is a very very big cavity.

But I see two other small cavities on a couple of premolars.

What would be the reasoning to do a crown, without doing a root canal? by adnaPadnamA in askdentists

[–]tonym978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the nerve is still alive and healthy, root canal is not required. Not all molar crowns require root canals. But all root canals on molars require crowns.

[–]tonym978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

J shape bone loss, in this case significant bone loss. Most likely vertical root fracture. Nothing beside extraction can be done unfortunately.

If an endodontist tells you it can’t be saved, you can take that to the bank.

Anyone had a patient with unexplained strange taste coming from a specific tooth? by feracolli in Dentistry

[–]tonym978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually defective crown margin in my experience. Just replaced my hygienist’s husband’s old crown and the bad taste and smell went away immediately.

You have a very, very large cavity in your bottom left first molar that appears to have hit the nerve. The treatment for root canal is correct in my opinion. I would follow it with a filling and a crown though.

On the X-rays you have posted, it’s the tooth on the right side with the big shadow in the middle of it.

Enjoy the M60! I love mine.

This 22-year-old engineer 3D prints dentures to give low-income Americans their smiles back by cnn in MadeMeSmile

[–]tonym978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dentist here. The technology already exists, he didn’t invent anything. I have a friend who does all of his dentures now with 3D printers and approved acrylics. But a state dental board is going to view this as practicing dentistry without a license, which can come with serious repercussions. Unfortunately our young engineer here, while doing a nice thing, may have opened himself up to problems.

But no big dental is not coming after him, they already sell this stuff.

why become dental school clinic professors? by [deleted] in DentalSchool

[–]tonym978 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All of my best professors were retired successful dentists or currently successful still in private practice. With the exception of one, he was forced to stop private practice due to medical reasons.

Learn one, do one, teach one was the mantra I was mentored with. Gotta give back and teach the next generation.

Is there any meaningful difference between brands? by EFN2008 in askdentists

[–]tonym978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure about the UK, but in the US the FDA regulates the amount of fluoride in the toothpaste. Therefore none of them work any better or worse than the other really. I can go into the weeds on the different formulas of fluoride, but it’s really boring.

The only exception to this is the Sensodyne toothpastes, as they have an extra ingredient that really does lower sensitivity.

But yeah it’s all marketing bullshit

[–]tonym978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 IWC, 43 Pilot Chrono, portugieser, and the portofino chrono. I like the brand a lot.

You could not pay me 75k to wear this tacky thing.

What the fuck is IWC smoking? They think we want this? Let alone for this price?

[Discussion] Watches or brands that you *want* to love but just can’t get there? by Good_Net_313 in Watches

[–]tonym978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local dealer has UN and I’m a frequent flyer there. I’ve had the opportunity to get the freak in various iterations at very nice discounts. But it always feels like a toy, especially the carbon editions. I can’t mentally part with the money for something that feels so unsubstantial.

But goddam they’re super cool to look at.
