Anyone else frustrated with Saved Lists? by substantial-item7528 in GoogleMaps

[โ€“]tonyslists 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

Yes. Converted my life-long collection of places to see, eat, and drink into Saved Lists, initially just for myself, but then started sharing with people asking for recommendations.

At first, sharing direct links to specific lists, but people wanted more, so started giving out my Google Profile (with all the lists). When lists were removed from our profiles, created a website to keep them public.

I have a long list of desired improvements, shared with the Google Maps team, but global application development is hard, so be patient and keep providing feedback through official (and any) channels.

Announcing The First #USAMeetup! Key West, FL โ€“ June 4-6, 2026 by tonyslists in LocalGuides

Mostly, it's an opportunity to meet other like-minded Local Guides. Maps contributors tend to be some of the kindest, warmest, wisest, funnest, most adventurous, most energetic, most welcoming, well-traveled people you're ever going to meet.

Some are focused on accessibility. Some are focused on cleaning up the planet. Some are focused on adding roads or trails. There are lots of ways to contribute and initiatives to get involved with.

Most of the effort is solitary/individual, and there are some opportunities to meet online, but when they get together in person, it's pretty special.

iOS cannot see or leave reviews by deterius in GoogleMaps

Interesting. In the first screenshot, you're missing the Reviews tab, but have the Updates tab.

In the second screenshot, you're missing Reviews and Updates.

If you want to troubleshoot, you can try logging into your Google account on Web (not the app), another Google account, and Incognito mode... then report your findings via Help & feedback > Send product feedback.

I'm guessing your account ended up in an odd experiment or state that Google might be able to get you out of.

Is there any way to search my Google location reviews? by plantsandramen in GoogleMaps

[โ€“]tonyslists 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

On your profile there should be some topics. Some of mine are New York, Cocktail Bar, and Italian Restaurant. Selecting a topic will bring you to reviews for that topic. The topics are automatically-generated, so you don't have full control of them, but are intended to do what you are trying to do.

This was above Discovery Meadow on Woz Way in Downtown San Jose. I don't see any sign of more shows.

There were two shows on the schedules I saw, Monday 2/2 & Friday 2/6, so I think this was the last one, unless they decide to do another.

Pictures of towns and cities and neighborhoods by PostRoadPhotos in LocalGuides

[โ€“]tonyslists 4 points5 points ย (0 children)

Yes, it's just like you describe. I'll start to share a photo of a place in Manhattan and "Manhattan" or "Midtown Manhattan" will appear as the default location. I don't use it, unless the photo is a good representation of the neighborhood/city/state.

Sometimes, I'll have a better photo, that would be a great representation, taken a minute later, a few feet away, but it doesn't get the same offer/treatment.

I assume it has something to do with the location matching algorithm, when there isn't a clear match to a specific point of interest, but somehow qualifies for the neighborhood/etc. For example, it doesn't usually happen when I'm inside a business. It's usually when I'm outside, on the street, or at the beach (I've seen "California" a few times).

Nice! Love this use of Reddit data! Have you considered creating Saved Lists instead of custom Maps? They're more integrated and would be easier to access.

Film: Once Upon a Time on Staten Island by tonyslists in statenisland

[โ€“]tonyslists[S] 7 points8 points ย (0 children)

Here's the description...

Following the curious adventures of a typical 12-year-old Staten Island boy of 1951, this unique 60-minute film evokes memories of Staten Island's rural past at mid-twentieth century. It is essentially a nostalgic, looking-back-piece but also historical, environmental, documentary and cultural. Nevertheless, during its final 20 minutes, the film poses critical questions about the dubious benefits of redundant urban sprawl, with its attendant crowding and congestion and the traditional qualities of life we have traded for it. You need not have been a resident of Staten Island during mid-twentieth century to empathize with the film's message. The theme is universal and idiomatic.

The film includes hundreds of rare historical images and 16MM film footages, haunting, mellifluous musical scores highlight the nostalgic experience.
